From the preliminary hair and makeup prep to on-location scouting, a tremendous amount of care was poured into this Arknights Suzuran cosplay shoot. To capture that signature fluffy texture of the character, I chose an off-white fleece long-sleeve coat paired with a light blue pleated skirt edged with delicate lace trim. Styling the headpiece was quite time-consuming: the pair of white fluffy animal ears had to be secured at a precise angle and balanced with the black eye-motif ornament at the crown so it wouldn't look out of place. The ends of the blonde wig were also carefully straightened and smoothed to ensure both side profiles and back angles held up flawlessly on camera.
A special mention must go to that iconic massive tail. The prop has a remarkably authentic weight—not only does it look visually plush and voluminous, but walking around genuinely required engaging my lower back and core to carry it. As I moved through the woods, I consciously let the tail sway gently with my footsteps so that dynamic candid captures wouldn't look stiff. The floral wreath staff and woven bamboo basket were also essential interactive props; the vines, roses, and ribbons atop the staff were all hand-attached piece by piece, infusing a touch of vintage fairy-tale charm. The large-eyed plushie in the basket, whether carried along while walking or set beside me on the grass during rests, enriched the narrative depth of every frame.
The location chosen was a lush forest park. Natural outdoor sunlight serves as the ultimate filter—especially the dapples of sunlight filtering through the tall canopy onto the grass, casting an exceptionally soft, touchable texture over the white fleece coat and white lace knee-high stockings. However, shooting outdoors in this ensemble came with notable challenges. The thick fleece material felt quite warm and stuffy under the sun, and the white socks and skirt hem could easily pick up grass clippings and soil, requiring constant vigilance to stay immaculate.
To capture the shots resting on tree roots, we tracked down a distinctively sculpted ancient tree. Due to the massive volume of the tail, sitting down required carefully adjusting the angle at which it draped, while leaning forward with legs naturally crossed—this not only showcased the layering of the outfit, but also allowed the lines of the legs and White stockings to stretch gracefully in the frame. For the shots by the lake, we harnessed the shimmering water reflections and gentle breezes to lift the skirt and hair, catching a lighter, more ethereal aura. Looking back on the whole shoot, despite the fatigue of posing with hefty props, the fulfillment of seeing the light, shadow, and color harmony exceed expectations was beyond words.
