The lighting and shadow effects in this series benefited entirely from that afternoon's side-backlighting. The ethereal glow you see rimming the wig was captured by Ruhua right when the sunlight was at its peak. The shoot took place at Cupid Manor, where carved stone pillars and Gothic arches provided incredible spatial depth. By using railings as a foreground frame, the subject was locked directly into the center of the shot, making the compositional structure very clear. Regarding styling, Velina's outfit is rich in detail; the deep blue fabric with gold trim, combined with the chest ornaments, demands very specific light absorption and reflection. To recreate the noble witch demeanor from the canon setting, the facial makeup was adjusted along the angles of the eyes and brows. The white hair used a voluminous high-crown wavy wig, which took nearly an hour just to align the flow of the strands, combined with Elf ears where the priority was making the transition between the ears and hair look seamless. To accentuate the character's cool, aloof elegance during the shoot, I chose a pose leaning against the railing with one leg resting on a low pedestal. This not only created an upward triangular silhouette that looked more statuesque visually, but also perfectly showcased the details of the White stockings and high heels. As the high-slit skirt billowed in the wind, paired with the folding fan in hand, dynamic motion naturally emerged. In post-processing, no exaggerated edits were applied; we primarily preserved the texture of the garment fabric and the net-like definition on the white stockings. Subtle adjustments were also made to the shadows to maintain the contrast between cool and warm tones, allowing the darker background to stay deep while keeping the subject luminously translucent. Shooting characters with such opulent designs always makes styling and lighting coordination the most exhausting phases. The location was remarkably cooperative this time; we simply followed the sun's angle to find posing marks and get great shots. The fan-shaped folds on the white gloves also added visual texture in the breeze. Light dappling through the gaps between pillars happened to fall on the cyan triangular motifs of the skirt, naturally enriching the large color blocks. Being in a backlit setup really tests the translucency of the hair. We specifically highlighted the wig with strands that let more light pass through, so when the wind blew, each strand seemed to glow before the lens. The photographer timed the shutter bursts impeccably, catching several moments where the flying strands were at their most graceful extension. Pairing classical architecture with a 2D fantasy concept felt magical—without needing to force facial expressions, simply standing there filled the frame with the character's signature mystery and aloofness. As a cosplayer in Anime cosplay, working with the photographer's angles, shifting weight to carve out different body contours, and letting natural halation wrap around the character was the most rewarding takeaway from this shoot.
