[Reimu Cosplay] Touhou Project Shrine Maiden Under the Yozakura

For this Yozakura-themed shoot, I chose the classic red-and-white shrine maiden dress of Reimu Hakurei from Touhou Project. Looking at the tailoring and details—from the oversized ribbon atop the head, lace trim on cuffs and hemline, to those fluttering red ribbons—everything recreated as faithfully as possible that lightweight yet gorgeous feeling from the original lore. To match the poetic atmosphere of Yozakura, we specifically picked a clear night after park crowds dispersed to create under a wooden arched bridge and blooming pink cherry blossom trees.

The photographer arranged many large lanterns emitting warm yellow light in the pond. Resting near the water surface, they served as lighting props while perfectly echoing the background Yozakura, cloaking the entire scene in a soft, dreamy filter. Climbing onto the wooden bridge in this outfit was actually not easy—due to the large skirt hem and thick-soled red geta clogs, I constantly had to find my center of gravity. The first pose set involved sitting on the bridge railing, where I needed to adjust natural folds in the skirt while carefully revealing white laced ankle socks, striking a balance between avoiding stiffness and keeping the skirt from snagging in wood gaps.

Holding that red tassel prop felt quite magical; the cord was light and would flutter with any breeze. To capture dynamic, high-tension moments of the tassels in motion, we repeatedly adjusted wrist angles and swinging amplitudes. Under the night environment, although lights on the bridge were warm, the chilly outdoor wind remained—yet to present the absolute best state, these minor external challenges made the shooting process even more engaging. After finishing sitting poses on the bridge, I also tried standing poses on the wooden floor; combined with the lantern-lit tree canopy behind and scattered warm starlight-like points in the background, another narrative-rich atmosphere was crafted.

The combination of white lace socks and geta clogs visually elongated leg lines nicely, matching the overall anime-style palette to make the image appear lively yet imbued with Yozakura's unique serenity. As a highly themed outdoor shoot, early prep on makeup and hairstyle also required much thought: dark long hair tied into a high ponytail paired with intricate headpieces presented noticeably different textures under bright light versus night soft light. All in all, this Yozakura-themed shoot not only recreated classic Touhou Project Reimu elements, but also fully utilized the enchanting light and shadow unique to spring night photography, making for a deeply satisfying photography experience.
