The absolute focus of my Bilibili World 2024 itinerary was this fan-designed Lynette Cosplay outfit. Since there were numerous custom design tweaks, I spent a substantial amount of time on makeup and styling. To combat sweat, I applied a generous layer of setting spray and loose powder for the base makeup, ensuring no noticeable shine under outdoor heat or intense indoor convention lighting. The wig styling required immense effort: to give the top a sculpted, three-dimensional cat-ear silhouette, I trimmed the curves repeatedly, sprayed styling mist, and even clamped them in place for a while—the final result was quite satisfying. For eye makeup, I selected a blue gradient palette, blending gently along the outer eye corners and adding simple star face decals to heighten the playful charm. The garment fabric is crisp and structured; the chest gem and teardrop-shaped ornaments carry solid weight, making it slightly heavy when worn, but from the front, the overall layering is exceptional and the details easily withstand close inspection.
The vibe at Bilibili World 2024 was truly phenomenal. Hall 3 was packed this year, with gigantic mecha props and chibi inflatables creating fantastic backdrops. Navigating through the crowds while keeping poised posture and maintaining the costume was physically demanding, yet filled with fun. Armed with a mini handheld fan to cool down while scouting spots with decent lighting, this process of wandering and snapping photos felt thoroughly enjoyable and immersive. Along the way, I encountered attendees who recognized me; they politely asked for photos, and during the shoot, I also helped guide lighting angles so the resulting shots would faithfully convey the costume's texture and intricate details. With countless exhibition booths and endless queues for convention merchandise, my friend and I had to squeeze in photo ops beside larger displays whenever an opening appeared, keeping our schedule fairly tight. Because bringing outside water into the venue wasn't permitted, we stood in long lines just to buy drinks, making staying hydrated a real chore. Even though an Anime convention is meant for social interaction, amid such shoulder-to-shoulder crowds, finding a corner to rest and recharge physical stamina becomes essential.
The most delightful highlight of the morning was running into Xiaqiu's Furina cosplay while strolling around Hall 3. Her ensemble—featuring a white dress paired with cat ears—exuded incredible texture; the lace hem of the skirt and silver accessories looked so delicate under the lights, standing out effortlessly amidst the sea of people. Once we recognized each other and drew closer, we chatted about our respective costume insights, exchanging experiences on dress silhouettes and how to secure accessories, such as clever tricks to keep neck bows straight. We then decided to take photos together as a souvenir. Finding an area with softer ambient lighting, the pleasant contrast between her white and my blue created a harmonious visual balance. Standing side by side and coordinating our balance, our chemistry made positioning effortless, quickly locking in a deeply satisfying moment. Being able to dissect makeup details and costume care with an experienced fellow cosplayer is precisely what gives an Anime convention its true purpose; serendipitous encounters like this feel even more wonderful than pre-scheduled meetups.
Beyond shooting photos, I made a conscious point to observe the crafting techniques of other cosplay enthusiasts, learning from their coordination ideas and experiences with homemade props, turning this into a fantastic offline learning opportunity. Although this Bilibili World 2024 experience was physically exhausting, witnessing so many exceptional creations and stage performances while soaking in the convention's inclusive atmosphere made it all worth it. Best of all, wrapping up with such satisfying photos alongside a fellow creator maxed out the overall experience. Faithfully embodying a beloved character with utmost dedication is not only a personal challenge, but also a heartfelt tribute to the character. The hours poured into makeup and costume preparation, combined with the serendipitous moments captured with fellow creators on-site, together built a complete, cherished memory of offline fandom connection for this Lynette Cosplay.
