[Firefly Cosplay] Honkai: Star Rail Travel Cosplay Application, Interpreting Girlhood Through Diverse Stylings

In preparation for the travel cosplay application for the Beijing miHoYo-only fan event 3.0 Special Edition, I took multiple sets of Firefly stylings in advance as material for the convention. Since the application process for the miHoYo fan event requires travel cosplay to demonstrate character accuracy across different scenes, I specially selected photos from various dimensions—such as daily life, swimwear, and event themes—to complete this project with my friends.

The first set of photos features a rabbit-eared school-vibe styling, set outdoors under a blossoming white flower tree. The pink wig is paired with a white collared shirt and a red necktie, with a standard navy blue pleated skirt for the lower body. Under this soft, daytime natural light, the facial makeup needs to be kept incredibly clean and translucent. Combined with the breezy grassland setting, it perfectly fits the character's crisp, everyday temperament. During the shoot, we adjusted the angle of the shawl cardigan on the shoulders multiple times to make the overall school style look both natural and exquisite.

The second set features an elf-eared poolside style. This set was shot by a swimming pool, where a light blue ruffled off-the-shoulder top paired with water elements showcases a casual, refreshing summer vibe. The biggest test for this set was the waterproofing and securing of the wig and ear accessories, and the sitting composition at the edge of the pool had to balance a sense of security with body extension. To highlight the character's translucent physical presence, we deliberately chose the relatively harsh natural light of the morning for Cosplay photography, allowing the blue tones of the water surface and the costume to blend together beautifully.

As the main featured cover set for this release, I chose the photo holding an umbrella on the balcony. The black-white-red three-color patchwork outfit paired with metallic chains, along with the skin tone and red pupil makeup, gives this photo a very strong visual张力 (tension) within the entire collection. This set required a large expanse of dark background for contrast, so we specifically picked an urban setting with metallic guardrails. The black-and-red pattern of the umbrella surface happened to serve as a natural vignette, making the main subject stand out more. Combined with black gloves and a leg-baring look, the composition provides both a vertical sense of stretching and a sense of enclosure brought by the umbrella, perfectly capturing that tough yet mysterious side of the character.

In addition, there is a set shot in a studio against a pure white background. The white twin-tails are adorned with red-and-black braided hair accessories, paired with a red-black-white pleated skirt suit and thick-soled black boots. The advantage of studio photography lies in the ability to precisely control the light ratio of the flash units, restoring all the three-dimensional details of the costume. The addition of plush rabbit elements as props and bells increases the color contrast in the frame, beautifully supplementing the playful and cute traits in the character setting. The white long twin-tails display great texture under the studio lights, and the braided sections took a long time to adjust in position, striving for absolute symmetry on both sides from a front view.

The last sailor suit style was shot outdoors against a pure blue sky background. The blue-and-white gradient hair color is paired with purple pupils, along with a blue-white-gray plaid pleated skirt and a white short jacket with a light blue bow. This styling is perfect for showcasing liveliness and energy. It was quite windy during the shoot, which happened to give the hair strands and skirt hem a great sense of fluttering motion, and the heart gesture made with the hands beautifully pulled the audience closer.

For this Beijing miHoYo-only fan event 3.0 Special Edition, I spent several months in advance preparing the details of the wig trimming and costume customization. The character of Firefly actually has a very large span of outfits across different scenes, so this time I specially prepared five different combinations all at once. In these different stylings, what I wanted to express most was still the character's trait of possessing both a sense of strength and the gentleness of a young girl. Throughout the shooting process, whether it was adjusting light positions, preventing wardrobe malfunctions, or dealing with sudden gusts of wind in the outdoor environment, these details ultimately added realism to the final photos. Although the application process for the travel cosplay is tedious, every seriously treated photo is a homage to the character and the work.
