When shooting this set of Lappland the Decadenza cosplay photos, what I wanted to capture most was her cool yet sharp character trait. Honestly, when preparing for this Arknights cosplay shoot, just restoring the character's spirit took a lot of effort. Especially the sense of layering in this outfit—the outer black leather jacket has an excellent texture, and the fluffiness of the white fur collar on the shoulders is just right, adding a bit of furry visual thickness to the cold, hard leather jacket. The black choker on the neck and the red-and-blue geometric color-blocked inner top create an incredible sense of contrast under the red light. To make the white wig look more natural, the hair strands were combed multiple times before releasing the photos to ensure no harsh blending traces around the base of the ears. Paired with that pair of furry beast ears on top of the head and the large tail behind, the character's three-dimensional presence in the frame immediately popped out.
Turning to the makeup, I intentionally enhanced the eye makeup this time. Dark under-eye shadow is paired with elongated eyeliner, and the corners of the eyes and below the cheekbones are dotted with a faint red flush, resembling details of warpaint or tear stains; the gaze needed to maintain a state that is both empty and alert. During the shoot, the photographer kept guiding me to restrain my gaze by finely adjusting the angle of my jaw—not too aggressive, but carrying that 'indifferent sense of desolation.' The prop, this white curved weapon, feels very substantial in hand, with a hooked top. Its silver-gray metallic texture reflects beautifully after lighting. To exhibit combat tension while holding it, I needed to create a subtle contrast of muscle exertion paired with a relaxed facial expression, which was quite a test for expression management.
The design of the shooting scene this time was also particularly fitting for the character's atmosphere. The black background concentrated all visual focus on the illumination of the red light. The iron chains hanging around, the red petals scattered on the ground, combined with a large area of red ambient light, created a highly oppressive yet isolated sense of drama. For instance, in the cover photo where I am kneeling on one knee and holding the weapon, the texture of those black glossy high-heeled chunky boots completely stands out under the red-and-black contrast. The straps and black markings on the thighs form an excellent visual negative space between the boots and the miniskirt, carrying power while preserving the extension and contraction of the lines.
Another action of throwing up the red cape actually wasted several clicks of the shutter. The fine white stripes inside the cape are embroidered, making it look very flowing when moving, but care also had to be taken not to let the cape block my hand movements and the position of the weapon. In the shadows of the intersecting iron chains, adjusting the composition to capture that split second of dynamic motion was highly interesting. This set of photos took a few hours from early makeup and styling to on-site lighting and fine-tuning details. However, after the final images came out, seeing that effect of fair pale skin, black leather clothing, and bright red ambient light intertwined together made it feel completely worth it. I also hope to accurately express that broken sense of an 'overflowing empty shell' and 'desolation' in front of the lens; it can be counted as a character-accurate cosplay attempt made with great care.
