[Firefly cosplay] Honkai: Star Rail: Fresh and Clear Photography of the Summer Swimsuit Look

The styling for this shoot is the Summer swimsuit version of Firefly from Honkai: Star Rail. The overall color scheme is dominated by cool ice-blue and pure white. Shooting by an Outdoor water feature makes balancing makeup details and prop coordination harder to master than standard indoor costumes. Therefore, I specifically chose a well-lit afternoon for this shoot, utilizing high-contrast natural light to highlight the wig's translucent texture.

For the costume, focus was placed on recreating the halter-neck blue-and-white bikini top, complete with white ruffled flounce trim and a geometric peach-colored pendant—key features for capturing the character's summer skin. The side-tie bikini bottoms on the lower half also maintain consistent color harmony. Clothing easily gets wet near the water during actual shooting, so quick-drying fabric with adequate elasticity was chosen to prevent the hem from sagging and ruining the final look. Additionally, the mounting method for the peach pendant on the chest was handled carefully to ensure it wouldn't shift drastically during movements by the water.

The hairstyle and accessories form the core visual identity of this look. The long hair, with its silver-white to light-blue gradient, displays fantastic texture and refractive luster under outdoor sunlight. At the same time, the black hair clip with a yellow cross pattern on top and the black bow tied to the side are not mere ornaments, but deeply resonate with Firefly's personal demeanor. To maintain the ideal curvature of the bangs against outdoor humidity changes, I specifically reinforced the styling with setting spray. I also used hidden bobby pins to secure the hair ends before teasing them out, creating a more voluminous and natural visual appearance.

In terms of makeup, to align with the translucent clarity of the swimsuit theme, I used lightweight base makeup layered with waterproof setting powder to ensure it wouldn't melt in the outdoor summer heat by the water. The eye makeup paired with the character's iconic ice-blue colored contacts to craft a bright, pure gaze. For lips, a natural peach lip tint was chosen, which avoids overpowering the look while making the overall complexion appear healthy and glowing. Highlighting was also applied to the bridge of the nose and cheekbones, enhancing the sunlight to create a radiant summer dewy skin effect.

The prop was the centerpiece of the composition. Cradling the giant light-blue inflatable prop with both arms injected a strong sense of summer coolness into the frame. Its semi-translucent texture harmonized beautifully with the ice-blue and white swimsuit while enhancing compositional balance. During handling, special care was taken to prevent the prop's edges from snagging the swimsuit ties. Moreover, with this prop anchoring the space, the overall frame felt less empty, naturally directing the viewer's focus onto the subject.

When shooting by the pool, the key was mastering the angle between the subject and the light. Because water reflections are intense, I selected the boundary area between the water and the railing as the main backdrop, slightly compressing the depth of field to turn the wooden fence and greenery into soft, blurred color blocks. Post-processing focused on enhancing soft-focus glow in highlight areas, rendering the overall tone fresh, dreamy, and perfectly suited to the visual style of this Honkai: Star Rail summer project. Off-camera flash was also used during shooting to darken the background, ensuring very even facial exposure.

Although outdoor swimsuit shoots are commonly perceived as straightforward, balancing character details with outdoor lighting and shadows truly requires thorough pre-planning. From packing the wig for transport to adjusting the inflatable prop's fullness on-site, every step influences the final output. While maintaining high fidelity, this photo set also captures the breezy lightness unique to swimwear. As a complete creative endeavor, the finished results are deeply satisfying. From initial conceptualization to the final shoot, though the process was intricate, this fulfilling sense of achievement is well worth documenting in this Fresh and clear photography log.
