From the initial planning, collecting reference images, to the final execution of the shoot, this Castorice cosplay look took roughly a month in total. Because the character's design possesses a very cool and elegant unique aesthetic, I wanted to get as close to this atmosphere as possible in both makeup and details.
For the wig, the silver-white long twin tails are one of the visual centerpieces of the entire look. To maintain the fluffiness and curvature of those two long braids, the stylist reinforced the internal support structure through multiple rounds. Along with those two diamond-shaped white hair ornaments, this ensured a natural drape and flowing line feel indoors. The headwear adopted a design with black spikes and pink-and-white flowers; this contrast of cold rigidity and soft beauty fits the temperament baseline of Castorice cosplay very well.
As for the costume, the upper body features a white halter-neck off-the-shoulder cropped design. The black choker at the neckline and the pink bow on the chest add layering to the overall color scheme, while effectively drawing attention to the shoulder and neck areas. The absolute core, however, is that massive butterfly-wing outer skirt. The base fabric of the skirt took a long time to choose; it needed a reflective material with a natural transition between purple and blue-purple, featuring a slight pearlescent sheen. In the final photos, those white teardrop-shaped patches look extremely three-dimensional under the light, and shifting the angle slightly allows the skirt's gradient colors to exhibit different shade variations.
To match the lower-body skirt, this time I paired it with white over-the-knee boots featuring large areas of purple cross-lacing and cutout designs on the sides. To keep the boot shafts upright and prevent slipping, the leg fit requirements were extremely high, making the process of putting them on and taking them off quite laborious, though the on-camera effect is fantastic. Combined with the upper-body butterfly skirt, this White tights and boots cosplay setup not only visually elongates the lower-body proportions but also makes the overall standing posture look exceptionally sharp and confident. Every time I shoot characters wearing such long boots, indentation marks and comfort are pain points that must be overcome, but it's all worth it to achieve high accuracy.
The studio for the shoot was Nanchang Hualuli, which set up extremely rich props and sceneries on-site. The purple-pink flowers on the ground, scattered crystal candleholders, and even the exquisite metal birdcage on the right all added a quiet, storytelling feel to the frame. The translucent gauze curtains in the background and the post-processed shimmering butterfly visual effects blended perfectly with the purple-blue cool-toned lighting on-site, creating a romantic yet slightly mysterious atmosphere.
The photographer for this set, Teacher Weiyan, is exceptionally skilled at handling this kind of dreamy lighting. He deliberately used the contrast between the main light source and ambient side lighting to highlight the texture of the butterfly skirt and the quality of the white boots. Because there are many elements in the scene, constant attention to body angles and arm positioning was required during the shoot to avoid crushing the piles of flowers on the ground with the skirt hem, while the bouquet of purple flowers held in my hand happened to form a visual closed loop with the flower clusters on the ground.
In fact, when portraying female characters with this kind of mystical and ethereal style, expression control is crucial—neither too rigid nor overly sweet, requiring more of a cool and composed state even when placed within a gorgeous setting. This photo set didn't deliberately feature many complex poses; instead, it relied more on environmental enhancement and lighting outlines to convey the atmosphere. Every time I challenge a character with such a multitude of detailed elements, I gain a strong sense of accomplishment when seeing the final processed photos. This immersion in character recreation is precisely what makes cosplay itself so fascinating.
