[Castorice cosplay] Honkai: Star Rail "Dance of Deep Dreams" Fashion Shoot Final Photos

The theme of this shoot is Castorice's "Dance of Deep Dreams" outfit from Honkai: Star Rail. In order to highlight the dreamlike and elegant feel of this fashion outfit, we chose a studio set featuring relatively classical Roman columns and crystal chandeliers, and arranged a large amount of purple-pink flower clusters as both foreground and background to echo the dominant color palette of the costume.

For the clothing material this time, we used a deep blue satin with a polarized sheen. Paired with the inner layer's white pleated ruffled skirt hem, it allows the entire look to present a cool-toned sense of luxury under light and shadow. Especially the long trailing back portion and the independent over-the-elbow long gloves on the arms—wearing these detailed pieces actually tested the extension of my limbs during shooting. To better showcase the layered structure of the waist and skirt hem, I deliberately designed several gentle turns and side-sitting poses, matching them with a white carved harp and a vintage manuscript as props, hoping to present that atmosphere of quiet playing far away from the hustle and bustle of the world.

For the makeup, besides the light purple hair color and pointed ear props that fit the setting, the eye makeup section intentionally deepened the blending area of purplish-red to make the eyes look deeper and more spirited. The blue butterfly on the headpiece is a crowning element; it not only echoes the color of the gloves but also serves as a detail that visually elongates the proportions of the face. This shoot utilized a Sony A7M5 paired with two lenses: 24-70mm and 70-200mm. The 24-70mm was primarily used to capture the overall sense of environment and standing poses, while the 70-200mm showed great advantage during close-up shots, compressing the background to give the clothing wrinkles and the metallic luster of the accessories more texture.

In terms of movement guidance, we tried different directions. There are frames of sitting upright at the edge of the flowers quietly reading a book, as well as shots of leaning against a Roman column and bending over to pluck the harp strings. As a coser, when wearing this outfit, the biggest difficulty lay in the black hollow-out choker at the neck and the high heel straps—I had to both ensure comfort for easy expression management and guarantee fluid movements without affecting the position of the skirt hem. However, in the final photos, these details were all accomplished through careful fixing and adjustment beforehand, presenting an effect that is quite close to the hallucinatory dream feel set in my mind.

The overall tone of this work leans toward inwardness and flexibility, without too many exaggerated dynamic movements, focusing more on conveying the character's serenity through the eyes and subtle hand movements. In fact, when shooting this kind of relatively static style Anime-style photography, it tests the coser's body control even more. The direction of the hair strands, the fit of the gloves, and the sense of distance between the gaze and the camera's intersection point are all things that need to be re-confirmed before clicking the shutter. I am very happy to have worked with the photography team to polish this set of relatively satisfying final photos; especially in an environment full of fresh flowers, it feels like we truly materialized that touch of spring with a cool undertone.

As the core prop, the harp not only bears the role of the visual core but is also an important node where we set up dynamic snapshots. Although this white harp is very heavy and quite troublesome to transport and position, the sculptural sense and exquisite sophistication it brings to the frame are irreplaceable by any flat decoration. Combined with the cool-toned smoke diffusing in the background, it makes the entire setting exude a glow that does not belong to the real world. Every posing stance of playing the harp required micro-rotations of the shoulders and wrists to let the silhouette of the gloves present a perfect broken line under the light spots.

Truth be told, in such a hot season, doing an indoor studio shoot while wearing a heavy skirt with multiple layers of cloth and long sleeve-covers indeed consumes a lot of physical energy. Especially since the material of the sleeve covers is quite dense, making it inconvenient to put on and take off, I could only maintain a semi-exposed state during breaks midway through to avoid degrading the shoot's quality due to sweat. This is the most authentic side behind cosplay official photos. However, when you see the highly dreamlike image presented in the viewfinder, all these minor shooting obstacles become acceptable.

Because the skirt hem of this fashion outfit has a glossy reflective effect, it places very high demands on the softening level of the on-site lighting. If the highlights are too harsh, it will cause an unsightly dead white on the blue fabric surface, ruining the overall texture. In terms of lighting, we leaned toward using large-area softboxes, spreading light from the side and above to keep the shadow transitions natural, while allowing the purple ambient light to slightly accentuate the layered feel of the white skirt hem from below. During the post-processing phase, I did not intentionally alter the contours of the photos themselves or pull the legs excessively long; instead, I focused on color restoration and brightening the frame's atmosphere, preserving the character's original body proportions.

In that close-up shot holding the book, I deliberately experimented with an angle where my chin was slightly raised, combined with the action of my fingertips touching the book pages, hoping to convey a feeling of attempting to grasp some fragmented memories. This is a relatively abstract emotional expression, and materializing it into cosplay actually requires quite a bit of intuition. Fortunately, the photographer's guidance during the shooting process was extremely accurate, helping me quickly find the suitable light position and posture.
