This Elf Princess styling for Firefly is truly a love-hate relationship for me. The blue-green gradient tulle skirt, golden strapping, and intricate lace look a hundred times more exquisite in person than in pictures. However, putting it on was an enormous ordeal. Those massive fairy wings look dreamy, but all the weight rests on my shoulders, with two clear straps digging painfully into my skin. The waist boning and corsetry had to be cinched extremely tight to contour to my body, leaving me able to take only shallow breaths the entire time. On top of that, the black leg straps and over-the-knee White stockings slipped down after just a few steps, requiring constant readjustments. The convention was packed and sweltering that day, and with the outfit completely unbreathable, calling it a torture device is hardly an exaggeration.
For makeup, to capture that ethereal fairy essence, I wore blue-violet contact lenses, applied a broad wash of reddish-pink gradient eyeshadow, styled the wig ahead of time, and dusted on some fine glitter. The headpiece features golden leaves and ribbons—very delicate, but prone to snagging on strands of hair.
On the third day of Firefly ACG Expo, the venue was packed shoulder-to-shoulder. Although this outfit made moving around arduous, many fellow fans still recognized Firefly while walking the halls and stopped to take joint photos with me. The most rewarding part was collaborating with photographer @-长生剑. He is exceptional at capturing light and shadow; the interplay of tree shadows and sunlight in this series was truly breathtaking. We found a spot with lush green foliage, where sunlight filtered through leaves and danced across the wings, refracting gorgeous colors.
Most of these shots were taken under natural light without over-editing, preserving the authentic textures of the fabric. This styling demanded seamless harmony from hair and makeup to the costume itself. Even though getting dressed and undressed felt like fighting a battle, the moment I saw the final photos, all the fatigue and strap marks melted away. The dreamy wonder of an Elf Princess was completely worth a whole day of chaos.
