This time, carrying a kimono and a red umbrella, I went out during the full bloom season for a kimono location shoot and some cherry blossom photography. The shooting location is a small courtyard with a red wooden bridge and flowing water, perfectly matching the gentle and slightly dreamy atmosphere of Puella Magi Madoka Magica. Because I wanted to present the dynamic sense of falling petals, I walked back and forth across and under the bridge several times, adjusting the angles of the skirt hem and the umbrella surface for a long time. The pink wig appears more translucent under natural light compared to a studio shoot, but care must also be taken to avoid overexposed highlights, so the photographer specially used a diffuser board to balance the contrast between the face and the environment. The red umbrella serves not only as a prop but also as the visual focal point of the composition; when opened, it anchors the frame, giving the lines of the cherry blossoms and the bridge more layers. Regarding the costume, special attention was paid to the tying of the kimono sash and the details of the cuffs and collar, as these are all part of the character's recognizability. The wind was a bit strong during the shoot, and petals were indeed constantly drifting down; to capture the best moment, the shutter was clicked continuously many times. Post-processing didn't involve excessive editing, mainly calibrating the white balance to maintain a natural contrast between the pinkish-white of the cherry blossoms and the vermilion of the bridge, since the charm of a location shoot lies in the authentic interaction between light and the environment. This set of photos records the artistic mood I wanted to replicate the most this spring. Although the process was hard work, seeing the soft tones in the final photos makes it all feel completely worth it.
