Black or white, "gun to my head, I released it.jpg". To capture Remielle's nimble spirit in Zenless Zone Zero, I tried two completely different styling schemes in black and white during this shoot. The actual photo-taking process was full of contrasts—demanding hard work while yielding plenty of fun on set.
Let's talk about the black outfit first. Wearing black gives a sharper overall impression; the neckline features a classic stand collar with a black bow design. High-intensity light effects at the chest cast an overexposed glare under strong lighting, creating great visual layers alongside black mesh patchwork and straps. What satisfied me most was the lower body coordination: black lace garter straps adorned with scattered star decorations, paired with semi-sheer black fishnet stockings. It maxed out the sweet-and-cool style expected of an Anime girl, while extending visual composition. Combined with a single-eye wink, it felt playful with a hint of sharpness.
The white outfit takes on a completely different elf style. Pure white dominates the costume, with waist-and-abdomen tailoring and fabric drape feeling much softer than the black set. Pointed elf ears were specially added as accents, blending with short, slightly wavy pink hair and silver geometric hair clips on top, making the overall disposition feel lightweight and ethereal. A light blue bow at the neckline and a hanging silver pentagram pendant serve as key details of this look, while gradient blue-and-white tassels line the cuffs and skirt hem, swaying gracefully with movement to create a dreamy, gentle atmosphere.
A lot of thought went into hair and makeup details for both looks. First was the wig—this time I chose a short, slightly wavy pinkish-orange wig with gentle flips at the ends. Bangs were trimmed into neat straight bangs, paired with a claw clip hair accessory at the crown to add texture without feeling heavy. For eye makeup, pinkish-purple contact lenses echoed the overall pink palette, while slightly exaggerated top and bottom false eyelashes paired with refined eyeliner made the gaze look even livelier. The overall cool-white glossy makeup finish blended seamlessly into the surrounding pinkish-purple ambient lighting.
The shooting process was quite interesting, especially controlling the intense flash effect at the chest during lighting setup. Once overexposed, it actually formed a soft, blurred white light effect, making the shoulders, neck lines, and skin texture look even fairer. When shooting directly with a smartphone, poor synergy between shutter speed and lighting easily yields overly dim shots, requiring multiple attempts on site to capture this hazy, dreamy, soft-light effect. As for the "gun to my head" (blade at my neck) in the post title, it was actually a joke between my partner and me during retouching because my poses felt a bit stiff during the shoot.
From wig, fabric textures, and accessory details down to makeup contours, I strived to stay as close as possible to Remielle's disposition in the game. Showing both black and white dual colors created an interesting contrast throughout the photo set—black being avant-garde and sweet, white being elegant and lively—presenting the character's multifaceted nature through different camera angles. This shoot was not only a practice in roleplay, but also a fresh Cosplay sharing attempt and deep portrayal of anime character styling.
