[Yae Miko Cosplay] Fox Shadow of the Grand Narukami Shrine, Frozen in This Moment

The Yae Miko cosplay I'm sharing today is probably the most detail-oriented photoshoot I've done recently. From styling the wig beforehand to adjusting the makeup later, it actually took quite a lot of time. To recreate that fluffy yet flowing visual sense, this pink wig was almost completely restyled, with layers trimmed multiple times to ensure it had enough volume in front of the lens without appearing overly heavy or messy.

During the shoot, I chose purple contact lenses to add the finishing touch, as this is a core element of her persona. Balancing that sense of laziness and sharpness in her eyes was actually quite challenging, so I spent a long time practicing micro-expressions with my eyes and brows in the mirror. For makeup, I abandoned overly exaggerated contouring, focusing instead on extending the eye makeup and creating an even, flawless base skin, which highlights the character's natural majesty and confidence even more from a slightly high angle.

Regarding the costume, I chose this white sleeveless top featuring purple and gold cross-pattern accessories at the chest. The large golden earrings on both sides are also highlights of the entire look. They had to be carefully secured to the outer ears during wearing; they were actually quite heavy, so to prevent uncomfortable pulling on the ears, I had to adjust my posture frequently during the shoot. However, when all these elements came together, that aura belonging to an Inazuma Guuji immediately emerged.

The post description mentions the "Narukami Group," and this photoshoot was indeed planned together with a partner. Although this set of photos only presents my solo perspective for now, while preparing this cosplay outfit, I was already imagining the interactive visuals when standing alongside my partner. That sense of destiny and bond is precisely what moves me deeply about this character's storyline in Genshin Impact.

Regarding my apology for any potential OOC moments, some players are extremely strict about accuracy in fan works. During preparation, I repeatedly rewatched the character's idle animations and story voice lines, striving to capture her slightly patronizing yet effortlessly composed poise. But everyone sees characters differently; with unique interpretations come distinct performances. I only hope that through my camera language, makeup, and styling, everyone can see the devotion I've poured into this character. I can't claim it's 100% perfectly accurate, but it was absolutely done with all my heart.

For studio lighting at the shoot, I used a relatively soft single light source paired with reflections from the room's white walls, which made it easy to capture delicate transitions of light and shadow on the face while properly accommodating the reflective metallic texture of the golden accessories. In post-processing, I didn't alter skin texture much, focusing mainly on tidying stray hairs around the hair edges to make the overall frame look cleaner and sharper.

Throughout shooting this Genshin Impact character, I kept pondering how to convey that underlying personality trait—a mix of divinity and tsundere elegance—through subtle expressions and hand gestures. Gently stroking the chin adds a subtle touch of contemplation and inscrutable mystery, which was one of my favorite frozen frames selected from numerous draft poses.

Engaging in cosplay photography is essentially collaborating with photographers, makeup artists, and costume designers to create a three-dimensional piece of art. I deeply understand that a great photo isn't just about putting on a costume; one's entire presence and state of mind need to synchronize with the character. This makeup and styling experience gave me a fresh understanding of character building, and I'm also attempting to push myself beyond my previous shooting comfort zones.

The photos shared today represent a milestone reflection on my recent work. Every photoshoot is a new exploration—from wig texture and contact lens color to costume comfort and movement limitations, every step requires careful planning in advance. I hope this set of work conveys the effortlessly composed charm of Yae Miko as I understand her.
