I have finally sorted out the final photos that I'm quite satisfied with from this set shot inside a bright and transparent glass house. Let's talk about the overall experience from preparation to the final output, as well as some detailed handling of the costume and styling.
First is the shaping of the hairstyle and face. The silver-white wig features a haircut with distinct layers and a slightly wavy trend at the tips. When wearing it, a small amount of hair wax was used to create a fluffy volume, which, paired with that red-and-black geometric hair accessory, added a visual focal point to the top of the head. The white eye patch was chosen in a matte fabric; once applied, it not only served to cover one eye but also avoided looking obtrusive due to reflections. The makeup for the right eye focused on the pupil color, using red colored contact lenses to echo the red of the hair accessory, and the eyeshadow was blended in a reddish-brown tone, making the gaze look cool and deep.
Next, let's talk about the costume. Large areas of white fabric actually place high demands on the pattern and tailoring. This mandarin collar coat adopts a large, cape-style oversized silhouette. To ensure it wouldn't collapse when worn, a stiff lining support was intentionally added inside. What attracted me most was the design of the long white tassels at the cuffs, which add a flowing sense of motion when falling naturally. The two black leather belts at the waist are the key waist-cinching points of this styling, and the silver square metal buckles are exceptionally striking against the white background, nicely dividing the visual proportions of the upper and lower body to avoid the expanding effect brought by large areas of white.
In addition to the main costume, the matching of accessories is also very meticulous. The glossy black leather gloves are custom-made, with a pattern that fits the hands closely while leaving enough room for finger movement. The pointed design of the gloves adds a touch of sharpness to the overall look, forming a stark contrast with the purity of the white dress in the photos. On the side of the legs is a set of very finely crafted black botanical patterns, paired with white slouch socks and white high boots, stretching the proportions of the lower body to look very slender.
The shooting environment and lighting were very friendly to us. The natural lighting of this glass house is excellent. Since there is ample light outside, the diffused light reflected indoors is soft and not glaring, making it perfect for shooting scenes with a large area of a white subject. For this Cosplay photography session, we tried both half-body close-ups and full-body standing poses. In the half-body close-ups, the photographer utilized a large aperture to create a beautiful bokeh effect with the background window frames and greenery, concentrating the gaze on the character's face and the fabric texture of the upper body. The one looking up at the sky sideways adopted a low-angle shot, which, combined with the lines of the glass windows, enhanced the architectural and depth feel of the image.
The makeup and styling underwent multiple rounds of testing in the early stages. For instance, for the wig styling, we tried natural hanging and messy styles, but ultimately felt that a slightly messy yet layered approach produced the best photos. White clothes are highly prone to overexposure during outdoor shooting, so in post-color grading, the highlights were lowered and shadows were slightly raised to preserve the clothing texture and skin luster. Although this outfit looks light, to maintain the upright collar and shoulder contours, a substantial stiff lining board was stuffed inside, making a full day of shooting quite a physical task.
Overall, this photo shoot went very smoothly. The replication accuracy of the roleplay styling, the lighting control of the photography, and the minor color adjustments in post-production all met expectations. The pure white color palette with black accents, set against the light, presents a clean and sharp visual experience, fitting beautifully with our intended thematic atmosphere of \"interwoven night and light.\"
