Choosing to wear this Luo Tianyi outfit to Changsha had one primary objective: indulging in good food. Cosplay usually requires maintaining strict poses, but this time I went for a completely down-to-earth Casual cosplay approach—wearing the wig and colored contacts directly into foodie spots.
The first stop was a Chinese restaurant with rich crimson decor. Having ordered quite a spread, the table was packed full. The centerpiece—steamed fish head with chopped chili—was huge, smothered in fiery red peppers and flanked by broth-soaked tofu, golden crispy fried dough sticks, and refreshing side dishes. Holding chopsticks to pick up rice while wearing green colored contacts required extra care to prevent the long wig from brushing against the dishes. The silvery-grey wig paired with this hanfu-inspired light green outer layer made me stand out prominently in the dining hall. Although moving around in this outfit while eating was slightly inconvenient, facing such delicious Changsha cuisine, filling my stomach came first!
After lunch, we headed outdoors for Changsha travel photo spots. Changsha was quite warm; wearing a wig of this thickness while keeping my makeup from melting was a real test of setting technique. Passing by a massive bowl-shaped landmark surrounded by lush trees and passing cars, I struck an open, relaxed pose by the curbside for a few tourist snapshots. Because the silvery-grey hair extends past the waist, the outdoor breeze kept blowing strands across my face, requiring constant brushing aside. After snapping a few frames, I quickly sought out a place to grab a refreshing drink and cool down. There, I spotted a retro yellow poster featuring ink-wash figures and bold calligraphy, posing in front of it with a cream-topped beverage in hand.
Toward dusk, I transitioned into a light blue multi-layered ruffled dress, paired with chunky black Mary Jane shoes and white crew socks—a combination far better suited for Retro street photography. We wandered into a nostalgic vintage alley where the walls were covered in faded, aged ceramic tiles, featuring old grain-and-oil storefront signs and a glowing green emergency exit sign overhead. Shooting in this dim corridor produced wonderfully atmospheric retro lighting. I posed with a heart shape over my head; though the dress was fluffy, the layered lace trim and ruffles flowed gorgeously as I twirled. For summer, pairing Mary Janes with white socks flattered the leg lines and added visual lightness on camera.
Exiting the alley led directly to a bustling street food market. Even though I had just eaten a full meal, the aromas from the roadside stalls were irresistible. I grabbed a giant skewer of red willow mutton and a bowl of black stinky tofu. Wandering the street holding the skewer in my left hand and the paper bowl in my right, I munched away. The black stinky tofu was garnished with fresh cilantro, chopped chili, and mouthwatering red chili oil. The kebab was hearty and satisfying with every bite. As a cosplayer, I normally obsess over facial expressions and posture on the street, but eating while strolling completely threw facial expression management out the window—I was just beaming with genuine happiness. Pedestrians turned to look, but I was entirely focused on the feast. Afterward, I picked up a specialty coffee to sip on as we moved to the next stop.
The biggest takeaway from this outing is that doing cosplay travel is truly an endurance sport. Carrying bags and props while keeping up a wig and full makeup over an entire day is physically demanding. However, exploring local delicacies while dressed as a beloved character is an unparalleled experience. Without chasing flawless angles or grandiose sets, capturing candid life moments felt authentic. Given the chance, I will definitely combine anime styling with everyday life again. Returning to the hotel at night, the very first task was taking off the makeup, carefully untangling the wig, and giving the hair proper care.
