When putting on this set of Luo Tianyi cosplay, the most intuitive feeling was the weight of the headwear. The grey ring on top of the head is intertwined with red and white beads, along with hanging long tassels; turning the head slightly makes one feel the pull of gravity. To restore the texture of the original design, thick brown fluff is sewn onto the shoulders and cuffs. Although the warmth retention is excellent, wearing it outdoors for a long time can indeed be a bit stuffy and makes the shoulders look visually broader. This ethnic style clothing is mainly themed in red and black, with white abstract lines and red patterns printed on the skirt hem, forming a strong color impact with the red upper garment. Every time I wear clothing with such layers, it takes a lot of time to organize the positions of the inner lining and outer robe to ensure the best drape in front of the lens. The totems and prints on the costume are not simple tiling, but carry a strong geometric sense. The white floral and leaf textures on a black background combined with red accents visually form a contrast between calm and passion. To make the fluff look more natural, I used a hair dryer to repeatedly groom the fluff on the shoulders and cuffs before setting off, ensuring they presented a fluffy texture under the lens.
The shooting location this time was chosen as a venue covered in prayer flags, serving as a prayer flag background. Countless blue, white, red, green, and yellow triangular flags unfolded overhead in a concentric circle shape, forming a huge colored dome. From an upward-looking perspective, the perspective distortion of the wide-angle lens infinitely stretches the layering of the prayer flags, almost like a space-time vortex wrapping people tightly in a torrent of color. The arm exposed in the photo belongs to the accompanying photographer; at that time, to tidy up the wide fluffy sleeve on the left side, he reached out to help me grab the cuff. I took the opportunity to look up into the gaps of the prayer flags, and he happened to capture this back view. The wind blew through the gaps of the prayer flags, driving the hanging beads and ribbons to sway gently; the faint friction sound of the fabric was very clear in the ears. The five colors of red, yellow, blue, white, and green of the prayer flags represent the elements of nature. Although this is not completely consistent with the color tone of Luo Tianyi's ethnic style clothing, the feeling of conveying power through color is connected. During the shooting breaks, looking at those flags fluttering in the wind, I felt a rare sense of peace and openness. This process is not just outdoor portrait photography, but more like exploring a different environment through the shell of the virtual singer. Every scrutiny of details, every lift of the hand and turn of the head, is an effort to shorten the distance between reality and fiction.
Regarding this presentation of Luo Tianyi, I want to apologize to all friends who follow this character. Due to the tight time and weather constraints of this outdoor shoot, the level of makeup detail did not reach my most satisfying state, especially after a long time of outdoor portrait photography, the facial highlights were a bit patchy. The material selection of some accessories was also limited by existing conditions, failing to achieve 100% perfect restoration. I always feel that every cosplay is a deep approach to the character, and this approach always brings some regrets and imperfections. For me, Luo Tianyi is not just a virtual singer, she carries a lot of imagination about stages and singing. Although the scene this time is different from traditional stages, the colors of the prayer flags overhead and the patterns of the skirt hem form a wonderful echo to some extent. During the shooting process, I constantly adjusted my standing posture, trying to make my back present an upward-looking, hopeful state. When hands hang down naturally, the wide cuffs completely cover the hands, forming a unique outline. To make the movements more vivid, the photographer tried multiple angles and finally selected this low-angle upward shot, perfectly capturing the spiral direction of the prayer flags and the upward posture of the character. The whole process tested the endurance of the neck very much, but seeing the final photos, I feel all the hard work was worth it. Afterward, I will continue to polish the details of this ethnic style clothing, hoping to bring a more complete and closer-to-original Luo Tianyi to everyone in future conventions or outdoor shoots.
