[Sonetto Cosplay] Reverse: 1999 — The One Standing Right Behind You

This dialogue was the original inspiration for this shoot at the Changsha ACC Anime Convention. From the moment I started preparing the cosplay outfits for Sonetto Cosplay and Vertin cosplay from Reverse: 1999, this sense of calm yet deep bond echoed continuously in my mind. Compared to massive special effects or complex, heavy armor, this pure white high-collared dress actually demanded more subtlety and ingenuity in visual expression. The fabric was chosen for its excellent drape—the pleats around the collar, the tiny black bow at the waist, and the layered irregular cuts at the cuffs and hem were all designed to recreate the character's cool yet gentle temperament. For this appearance, I specifically styled my orange long curly wig to be fluffy yet textured, with the white headband serving as an essential iconic feature.

Looking at these photos, you might think the lighting was natural, but the light sources at the convention were actually quite chaotic. As a cosplayer, I collaborated with photographer WiFi for a long time. Black softboxes and light stands in the convention background added difficulty to the lighting setup, especially with constant crowds passing through. To achieve a clean, translucent, and textured atmosphere, we chose a corner of the exhibition hall, utilizing reflectors and off-camera flash to illuminate our white dresses while lowering the background exposure, pushing the cluttered convention elements into deep blue blurred shadows. Every prop—the clear umbrella, sunflowers, and the black notebook—was repeatedly adjusted for the perfect angle. The transparent umbrella in particular created a subtle, soft feeling on our faces as light passed through it, perfectly matching the quiet, sincere, diary-like aesthetic we wanted to convey.

The shooting process was more exhausting than expected because white clothing gets dirty easily while moving around, requiring us to be extremely careful with every gesture. Yet I thoroughly enjoyed the process, as it was more than just pressing a shutter—it was an earnest effort to tell a story through visual language. When cosplaying dual characters with a partner, the tacit interaction is something a solo shoot can hardly replace. Like the photo where we hold hands, we didn't deliberately strike aggressive poses; we simply stood together quietly, her holding the black notebook and me holding sunflowers, allowing a natural sense of quiet companionship and empathy to flow forth. Or like the shot under the clear umbrella, with the umbrella handle held between the two of us, transmitting that silent trust between the characters through our eyes.

Behind the creation of every cosplay lies a fresh understanding of the character. I'm not merely wearing a garment; I'm resonating with anime souls through my own expression within her fleeting moment of life. The white dress, gray hair, orange hair, and the busy convention scenes in our background will all become part of this memory. I am glad to share my love for this character and story at the Changsha ACC Anime Convention in this way, and I hope these photos freeze the original passion we felt when looking back at the past.
