[Lucy Cosplay] Leaving a Mark in Cyberpunk: Edgerunners' Night City

"The way to make a name in Night City isn't how you live." This line resonates deeply with many Cyberpunk fans, and this time I chose to step into Lucy's shoes to leave my own visual imprint in this neon world that feels both fictional and real.

The preparation for this shoot was actually very meticulous, starting with the hair. The silver-white short hair with straight bangs is a highly iconic trait of Lucy's. However, to add a bit of layering and vividness, the edges of the wig underwent a layering treatment, and the ends were specially customized with a rainbow gradient dye, which beautifully presents a sense of lightness and randomness when the wind blows. To create that cold yet slightly glamorous atmosphere of Night City, we used blue-grey contact lenses paired with red-brown eyeshadow blended at the outer corners of the eyes, complemented by sharp eyeliner, trying to restore that alert, distant, yet determined gaze.

In terms of clothing, what satisfied me most was the shoulder and back design of the top. The white long sleeves have a great texture under bright light, while the black stitched straps not only outline the back lines but also cleverly add a lot of tactical techwear vibe. Especially the silver four-pointed star ornament in the hollowed-out area of the back is a highly representative element. The high-waisted tight pants of the lower body combined with the cutout design on the outer thighs, paired with the red-accented platform high-heeled motorcycle boots, visually elongated the leg proportions tremendously. The texture and weight of the boots are also perfect for the rugged Cyberpunk style. In particular, the composition of the first image sitting on the edge of the rooftop fully showcases the leg lines, the details of the boots, and the overall wearability of the outfit.

This shoot was set on the rooftop terrace of a city skyscraper, with the neon lights of the city at night serving as our best backdrop for a night portrait. But the wind was truly massive on the day of the shoot. You know, for a cosplay shoot, wind is both a blessing and a nightmare. Too much wind can easily mess up the hair strands and ruin the bangs, but because of this authentic wind, it instead captures that cold austerity of the character looking down at everything from a high vantage point in Night City. To snap the best state of the flowing hair, my photographer partner held down the shutter for a long time as we repeatedly adjusted our sitting postures and eye angles. I kept contemplating Lucy's personality traits in my mind—that contrasting sense of having both vulnerability and power. I love the composition of the first photo; it not only centers the character's proportions but also makes full use of the massive neon buildings and bokeh in the background, exuding an air of loneliness yet freedom.

During post-processing, we intentionally preserved the warm and cool contrast of the night portrait, blending the blue-cyan tones of the city light sources with the pink bokeh of the neon lights to bring the frame's atmosphere closer to the anime's visual style. The charm of Lucy's character lies in her rebellion against reality and her yearning for freedom. This spiritual core actually corresponds to our original intention of doing Cyberpunk cosplay—to try different lives and feel the souls of different characters.

Every single photoshoot requires a long process of character selection, preparing outfits and props, on-site scouting, lighting setups, and post-processing adjustments. But seeing that vivid figure standing in the night wind in the final photos makes all the fatigue completely worth it. The charm of the Cyberpunk style lies not only in the sense of technology and the future, but more importantly in that independent attitude of standing out in a bustling city. I hope this set of photos can convey that unique flavor belonging to Night City, and I hope everyone who loves playing with cosplay can find their own joy within their characters.
