[Misaki cosplay] Blue Archive: Year of the Horse New Year Cheongsam and Black Stockings Shoot

On New Year's Day, the very first day of the Year of the Horse, this set of Misaki cosplay photos from Blue Archive is finally ready to share with everyone. When preparing for this shoot, I first wanted to capture her core aura—seemingly aloof and casual on the surface, yet in total control underneath. For clothing, I selected a modified sleeveless black cheongsam featuring dark woven patterns and a high side slit. The gold dragon embroidery along the side serves as an eye-catching element, creating strong visual tension against the black base fabric, while the turquoise cross-knot trim at the neckline brightens the color focus of the upper body. For hair, I styled sleek black short hair with neat round buns on both sides, adorned on the left with a blue-and-gold ribbon hairpiece for precise canonical accuracy. Regarding props, the long-barreled shotgun serves as one of the soul props of this set; its matte black barrel and wooden handguard echo her combat background. A black briefcase beside me and a gray-purple vertical-striped coat casually slung over add a touch of everyday composure and crisp practicality.

We selected three distinctly different scenes to showcase the character's multifaceted nature. The first scene was set in a courtyard with rustic stone steps, bathed in soft natural light as sunshine filtered through greenery onto the stone pavement. Sitting barefoot on a stone bench with both hands relaxed at my sides, stripped of ornate embellishments, brought out her calm, rational side. Through a composed sitting posture and a slight head tilt, it conveyed an imposing pressure that needed no words.

The second scene took place indoors against a backdrop of a vermilion wooden gate and a long corridor. Here, I changed into opaque black tights and black pointed-toe high heels, draped the long gray-purple striped coat over my shoulders, and sat on a wooden bench. The coat's heavy drape complemented the slim tailoring of the Cheongsam cosplay nicely. Gazing downward with a subtle tilt of the head, this reserved yet focused expression—paired with leg lines contoured by black stockings and heels—represented my personal favorite look for capturing her dual traits of elegance and sharp poise.

For the third scene, we moved outdoors next to a vintage green tram. The tram featured a black metal frame and wooden seating, creating a wonderful collision between vintage aesthetics and her modern, crisp outfit. Holding the black briefcase in one hand with one leg slightly bent as if stepping onto the tram's stairs, this dynamic freeze-frame simulated a genuine moment of her embarking on a journey between missions, giving the frame narrative extension.

In terms of photography techniques, we deliberately avoided heavy bokeh from a wide aperture that completely blurs out the background, opting instead to preserve environmental details like brickwork, wood grain, and the tram's metallic texture. Amidst the festive atmosphere of the Year of the Horse New Year greetings, I wanted her cool composure to coexist with the warm, lived-in surroundings rather than making the shot feel overly heavy. The temperature at the time was quite cold, and shooting outdoors in a shoulder-baring cheongsam and short skirt was quite a physical challenge. However, fully focusing on movements and emotional expression made me forget the cold. The photographer reminded me multiple times to check prop placement and manage facial expressions, as a cool-headed character can lose her aura with even a subtle lapse in posture. This collaborative focus on image quality made the first day of the Year of the Horse incredibly fulfilling.

Regarding the character herself, whether it's her composure facing the big picture or her unique leadership aura, she left a deep impression on me. Through this shoot, I hope to convey my interpretation of her character traits to everyone. Kicking off a vibrant Year of the Horse with this photo set carries a sense of ceremony for me.
