Today, I'm bringing you a cosplay photoshoot of Maomao from The Apothecary Diaries. Let's dive straight into the styling concept behind this look. For the attire, I chose a modified historical costume incorporating traditional Hanfu elements, centered around a color-blocked aesthetic. The outer layer is a pink, wide-sleeved, straight-front top adorned with exquisite jacquard patterns, worn over an inner crossed-collar top in cream and pure white, paired on the lower half with a deep purplish-crimson pleated maxi skirt. A long white sash is tied at the waist, accented with red floral ornaments. To give the skirt an airy lightness, white trousers were layered underneath. The wig is a deep teal-green with blunt front bangs, styled at the crown into two symmetrical double buns with long braided pigtails cascading down both sides, embellished with golden floral hairpins and tied off at the braid tips with bright pink and vibrant green beaded charms to inject playful detail. For makeup, to capture Maomao's distinctive aura, I wore bright blue colored contacts, paired with reddish-pink blended eye makeup and prominent pink blush to make the facial contours look more defined and spirited. My nails were also painted blue, accessorized with gold drop earrings bearing green jade pendants and a metallic necklace dangling pink blossoms with green teardrop charms. Ample thought went into the props as well, such as the white cat round fan in my hand and that yellowed vintage ancient scroll-book. The shooting location was set in an authentic Chinese garden filled with classical charm, surrounded by dark wooden corridor pillars, railings, and gray stone steps. To capture dynamic frames of the flared skirt in motion, I ran and twirled repeatedly down the covered corridor; the expansive sleeves and pleated skirt opened up with every movement, creating wonderful visual tension. In quieter moments, I sat beneath the covered promenade flipping through the yellowed volume, or playfully balanced the scroll atop my head beneath the dappled sunlight. Because the natural daylight was so clear, the lush green foliage and antique architecture stood out with rich depth against the backlight, while the light sweeping across the fabric brought out exceptional tactile textures. The entire shoot was delightful and the air was fresh, fully immersing me in the carefree joy of a garden stroll. Beyond its vivid color contrast, the fabric possessed a gorgeous, natural drape under the sun. I hope this photo set brings everyone a little bit of the fun of this garden outing.
