The sunshine was absolutely incredible; the light and shadow filtering through the rockery fell onto the skirt hem, clearly showcasing the translucency of the blue-green mesh gauze. In an outdoor garden with lush plants, rockeries, and a pond, the ethereal vibe of the Green Snake theme was brought out to the fullest.
What satisfied me most about this styling was the white lotus hair accessory on my head and the uchiwa fan in my hand; the green fan face paired with white flowers echoed the overall color scheme of the costume beautifully. I actually really love these bright and lively tones, especially blue-green clothes, which make the skin look very fair and clean. Combined with the summer afternoon sun, the whole person looks highly energized. During the shoot, we intentionally chose some walking and looking-back movements, such as a playful head tilt while leaning against the rockery, or slightly bending over while holding the uchiwa fan, all to break the over-dignified dullness found in traditional ancient style photography, aiming to showcase the agile characteristics of Xiao Qiao players. The detailed craftsmanship on the costume was also very attentive; the golden decorative lines on the shoulders and the hanging pom-pom tassels gave the overall look many little highlights worth noticing.
Actually, there were a few minor episodes during the outdoor photography process. For example, the shoes were lace-up sandals with a small chunky heel, which required extreme care when walking on the stone paths of the garden, but to make the standing posture look beautiful, I gritted my teeth and persevered. Moreover, the wind was a bit strong that day, and the streamers on the wig and sleeves kept blowing around messily. Fortunately, the photographer reacted quickly and captured many moments of them scattering naturally, which unexpectedly gave off that elegant feeling of the wind blowing up the skirt hem. This cosplay costume actually put a lot of work into the pattern; the high-waistline design elongated the proportions of the legs, and the two-piece flowing water sleeves made the movements of the arms appear lighter.
For the character of Xiao Qiao, what is most attractive is not just her cute appearance, but also that personality carrying a bit of pride and charming innocence. We also tried our best to capture this temperament during the shoot; the expressions didn't need to be intentionally too serious, just a relaxed smile and a playful gaze perfectly fit this cool yet active summer vibe. This attempt at an outdoor real-scene photoshoot made me feel once again that finding the right scene is truly too important; compared to solid-color studio shoots, this environment full of natural breath makes the entire photoset look much more vivid.
Every time I receive the returned photos from the photographer, it's a pure enjoyment. Looking at these pictures makes me feel that the hard work and rushing around that day were totally worth it. The costume felt extremely comfortable to wear once getting past the initial slight sense of restriction when first putting it on, and coordinating with the props went very smoothly. I hope everyone can feel the coolness and vitality of this Xiao Qiao Green Snake Cosplay through the photos, which can count as a satisfying answer sheet to myself for this outdoor photoshoot.
