The convention photos of Cantarella from the World Line Anime Convention are finally retouched! Cosplaying Cantarella from Wuthering Waves this time—I was the model, while my partner handled photography and post-processing. Speaking of this costume, the moment I received it, I knew it would be an enormous undertaking. The garment consists of countless layers: the outer tier is crafted from satin fabric with a rich sheen, lined beneath with several layers of lace and tulle skirt petticoats. Dressing up required someone else to help lace up the back ties, and because of the front chest cutout, the tailoring had to hug the body tightly to project that sharp, crisp silhouette—any slight looseness or ill fit would instantly look sloppy. The wig was a cool-toned pale lilac, requiring meticulous combing, as any slight flyaways would become painfully obvious under the lens.

The shooting took place inside one of the exhibition halls at the World Line Anime Convention. The venue was vast with towering, wide windows overhead, causing ambient lighting to fluctuate constantly. Since we were shooting convention photos without dedicated studio lighting rigs, we had to rely on natural light. At first, we tried several frames near the windows, but the top-down light was too harsh, casting unflattering heavy shadows across the face. Later, we relocated to a relatively open area, utilizing floor bounce reflections and ambient glow for fill light. To convey Cantarella's subtly mysterious and dangerous aura, I poured considerable thought into choreographing poses. For instance, in photos one and two, my hand resting on the umbrella was casually relaxed, yet my eyes maintained a piercing, direct intimidation. The caption questions whether she is an 'antidote or poison,' which I feel encapsulates the character's inherent duality perfectly. Throughout my performance, I strove to look composed, while keeping hand gestures and eye contact subtly sharp.

Detail-wise, the costume was packed with accessories. The metallic hardware along the neckline cast strong specular highlights in the light, and the blue flower on the umbrella handle needed precise angle adjustment. The trickiest part was managing the garter socks on my legs: because the gown features high side slits, walking around easily exposed the thighs, making tight garter clips imperative. The semi-sheer White stockings, while gorgeous, snagged easily, demanding extra care when navigating the venue floor. Sitting on the ground for photo three, my fanned-out skirt occupied a massive floor area while I had to keep my core upright. Passing attendees occasionally stopped to watch, but you get used to it quickly as long as you focus entirely on your expression control.

Capturing these fleeting candid moments required the photographer to adjust framing and camera settings in split seconds. Because the hall background was cluttered, a wide aperture was used to melt distractions into soft blur, locking visual focus squarely onto me. The floating bioluminescent jellyfish and glowing motes in the photos were added in post-production—partly to echo the character lore and partly to grant the frames an ethereal translucency. Retouching prioritized fabric sheen and organic skin texture without excessive smoothing, preserving genuine, tactile details. From initial prep to final delivery, the whole journey was far from easy; running around the convention halls in so many heavy layers in the heat was physically exhausting. But seeing the frames capture that ideal atmosphere made every bit of effort worthwhile. Cantarella possesses immense expressive depth as a character, and I hope this series satisfies fellow fans of Wuthering Waves.
