[Medea Cosplay] Fate Series: Dark Witch Under Violet Light

The opportunity to shoot this Medea cosplay was highly dramatic, completely stepping out of my usual character comfort zone. If it weren't for the strong recommendation of my friend @Yansi_ooo, I probably wouldn't have actively tried a character with such strong magic attributes and mature older-sister charm for a long time. I was previously worried that my temperament wouldn't support the atmosphere of a mysterious witch, but once I put on the elf ear wig and wore this purple-and-blue magic robe cosplay, I truly had a wonderful experience of breaking through my own boundaries.

First, I must heavily praise the set design for this shoot—it was truly genius-level. The venue itself was quite empty, but my friend managed to build a highly narrative dark magic altar using various props. The purple ambient light shining down, paired with the black iron lanterns hanging overhead, butterfly specimens in photo frames, scattered skeleton skulls and icy blue flowers on the ground, and heavy iron chains, instantly maxed out the atmosphere. Holding the staff and standing in this scene, the oppression and mystery of the witch naturally flowed out without needing complex expressions.

Regarding the costume, we actually did some secondary processing on the original base, especially the gold geometric borders on the chest, which reflected excellent metallic textures in the dim purple lighting to break the dullness of the dark purple and black. I chose a light blue wig with silver-gray tones, with one side styled into a braid and the other draping naturally. Paired with long elf ears and blue contact lenses, the makeup featured slightly elongated eyeliner to make my gaze look sharper and more filled with stories. Because this styling was so vastly different from my usual self, enhanced by the rendering of the ambient light, looking at the raw photos gave me a strong sense of looking at a \"stranger\"—which perfectly matches the joke in my post that this was the set where I did the least amount of Photoshop editing, yet looked the least like myself.

The shooting process was actually much more relaxed than expected, without any of the urgency of rushing through scenes. Although walking around the skulls and chains in long boots and a large cloak tested my balance a bit, when I struck poses like looking back over my shoulder, adjusting my hood's brim, or half-covering my face to go with the staff, the presence brought by the props was extremely prominent. My friend's control over light and shadow was also highly precise; the warm yellow flame from the lantern and the cool purple background light formed a beautiful contrast, making the character pop out of the frame.

The final photos turned out surprisingly amazing. This kind of styling with gothic and mysterious elements truly needs to be activated with the help of excellent backdrops and lighting. Trying characters I never envisioned before brings a wealth of fresh excitement and shooting fun. I'm highly grateful for the wonderful sparks generated during this collaboration of professional cosplay photography.
