Though having the cutest loli faces and wearing the freshest aqua-toned base layers with ribbon bows, who says we must brandish greatswords and shields looking fierce? As two waterside aces in Fate/Grand Order, the combination of Altria Caster (Berserker) cosplay and Summer Castoria cosplay always brings a wondrous approachable charm. On the first day of this anime convention, my partner and I didn't hesitate to do this pairing, highlighting pure gap-moe—how could someone this cute be a Berserker! But the fact is, these emerald-green colored contacts and shimmering golden short hair truly best represent the lively spirit of the summer waterside.
Speaking of the styling details in this shoot, this Altria Caster (Berserker) cosplay outfit is truly intriguing. The white sporty cap is printed with prominent gold star emblems, paired with a black-and-white distinctly striped sailor-collar top—at first glance, looking like a lead runner on a high school track team, until the emerald green eyes beneath the brim instantly reveal the Servant's identity. The bottom features a black-and-white short outfit; although styled sporty and casual, it was surprisingly perfect for dashing around the convention hall, being both breathable and easy to move in. Those black open-toed sandals on the feet are actually highly recognizable items from the original illustrations, bringing a grounded, approachable charm when worn today.
Meanwhile, the styling of Summer Castoria cosplay beside me was even more dreamy. The light blue bunny-ear headband perches playfully atop her head, working together with that iconic, stubbornly upturned ahoge to etch pure cuteness into the DNA. The massive light blue bow at the neckline is the soul of the outfit, and the silver-white piping on the details is exceptionally delicate. Her white-and-blue off-the-shoulder dress design not only looks wonderfully refreshing visually, but also served as a breathable styling trick in the stuffy air of the convention. Furthermore, my partner specially matched the same green colored contacts, which, paired with the golden blunt bangs, gave her gaze an innocent yet deep allure.
On the day of the shoot, the lighting wasn't entirely ideal, and the ground was made of grey concrete pavement tiles—a common outdoor convention scene that truly tests photo performance. Instead of deliberately avoiding it, we used this authentic sense of real life to highlight the delicacy of our outfits. Without chasing dramatic sunset backlighting or heavy shadows, we simply used this high-angle selfie perspective to document the relaxed, delightful interaction between the two of us in our Convention photos. This highlighted the clean transparency of our makeup even more. The base makeup was kept light, paired with accentuated eye makeup to make the eyes look round, bright, and full of vitality.
This is not my first time cosplaying Castoria, but every time I put on this costume again, a nostalgic sense of returning to the summer seashore washes over me. Many people think sailor- or maid-style outfits are purely soft and cute, underestimating the explosive power of female Servants in the Fate universe. While our battle gear looks harmless on the outside, our core combat prowess and skill effects as Servants in Fate/Grand Order are never to be underestimated. In our Altria cosplay, we not only aim to recreate their outward appearances, but also to embody that duality of a soft exterior harboring an unyielding, resilient core.
To maintain this refreshing, energetic presence, we put considerable care into wearing the wigs and colored contacts. The fine wig fibers style well but easily get disheveled by outdoor breezes, so we both reinforced the fastening on our caps and hairpieces. For the contacts, we specifically chose translucent green lenses of suitable diameter that cleanly set off the whites of the eyes against blonde hair without looking stiff. While shooting today, many passing fellow fans remarked that it felt like an authentic projection of anime characters, which is perhaps our greatest accomplishment as cosplayers. Breaking the fourth wall to bring that fleeting summer breeze into the reality of concrete and steel is truly cool.
For selfies and convention snapshots, I prefer preserving raw lighting and natural color tones. Rejecting excessive filters or skin-blurring, I kept the subtle perspective distortion of high-angle shots and natural facial shading. The hand gesture on the left wasn't stiffly posed, but intended to document authentic emotion in that fleeting second. With my partner on the right sporting a gentle smile, the frame remains simple yet vibrant with everyday life. Without needing grandiose sets, even a simple convention corner can capture our own character soliloquy.
Cosplay, to me, is not just slipping into favorite clothes, but touching the soul of the character. Today's collaboration with my partner was exceptionally smooth, and the outfits fit like a glove. In this scorching summer heat, presenting ourselves before everyone in this crisp blue-and-white ensemble is perhaps my finest tribute to this summer. Whether in reality or within the game, it is our very own Fate/Grand Order journey. A brief recreation sparked boundless imagination about the characters. I hope this refreshing breeze reaches the hearts of everyone before the screen as well.
