To capture the character tension of Medea from the Fate series, this shoot attempts to objectify the mysterious and cold temperament of the witch.

To stay true to the character design, the makeup challenged purple tones for the lips, paired with long pointed elf ears, requiring careful management of a detached gaze in front of the lens. Managing the texture of purple lipstick is indeed difficult, as it needs to be highly pigmented while preventing the lips from looking dry in photos—this wouldn't have been possible without the meticulous work of makeup artist @TianTian. The costume features a deep purple satin long dress, where the golden metallic lines at the neckline echo the cold, rigid silver-gray armor on the arms, serving as the visual center of this outfit. The naturally glossy fabric demands high precision for the lighting angles to blend seamlessly with the ambient light.

The location was set in a vintage library filled with a retro atmosphere. The bookshelves packed with ancient volumes and the intricately embroidered cushions on the sofa perfectly match the character's aura of being constantly accompanied by knowledge and secretly plotting schemes. Old books scattered on the floor and a vintage candlestick nearby add a sense of quiet depth to the frame. During the shoot, it was necessary to maintain a calm and elegant posture, while using subtle movements holding the props to display a sense of control.

This shoot was supported with venue space by the Jinan Bisque Doll Cosplay Studio. The indoor retro style arrangement is highly favorable for characters from Fate or Fate/Grand Order who possess a heavy narrative background. Post-processing light and shadow adjustments were also key; the photographer and retouching artist placed heavy emphasis on controlling dark details, ensuring the deep-toned clothing and the gloomy bookshelves wouldn't blend together, keeping the main silhouette perfectly clear.

Portraying such a complex witch image was a fun experience. By repeatedly refining the angles with the photography team during the process, the final photos basically achieved the initial concept in terms of atmosphere and tension. Transforming a 2D understanding of a character into concrete images remains the most fascinating part of the joy that is cosplay.
