[Arknights Nian cosplay] Today is Good for Slacking Off, Bad for Working: Lazy and Still in the Gentle Breeze

Today is good for slacking off, bad for working. Blown by the gentle breeze, feeling lazy and not wanting to move at all. This was a photoshoot where I felt in an exceptionally good state, because there was no need to deliberately hold difficult poses—I simply went along with the effortless, cozy mood.

This time, I cosplayed Nian from Arknights. To faithfully recreate the character, plenty of details went into preparing the costume: the red bandeau top, the white jacket, and the eye-catching dragon-and-tiger pattern printed on the jacket lining were the most standout elements of the outfit. Adjusting the placement of the red tattoo stickers on my legs took nearly half an hour to ensure every detail matched the design closely. The red-and-black horns and long ears created great visual impact once worn, though they truly tested head balance—the slightest movement meant having to adjust them. Purple colored contacts and crystal-textured eye makeup gave the expression more vitality, which, paired with the pointed ears, brought a high level of completion to the overall makeup and styling.

The sunlight was wonderful on the day of the shoot, filtering through the dark wooden lattice windows and casting dappled light across the corridor floor. With a gentle breeze blowing and wearing this styling, I was truly in a state of half-zoning out. This gear was perfect for building that languid aura; a few casual candid snaps captured that 'no work, just daydreaming' vibe perfectly. Working with the photographer on angles, we deliberately showcased leg length and overall body proportions even better. During a break, sitting on a wooden bench and casually resting my chin on my hand produced unexpectedly great results.

During the shoot it was actually quite tiring—wearing the wig and heavy headpiece for a long time made my scalp ache slightly—but seeing that casual, slightly tsundere flair in the final shots made it all worthwhile. Regarding the outfit, I also gave suggestions during post-editing. I had carefully studied the in-game settings, specially adjusting the hairstyle and color to present details in front of the lens that harmonized with the character's temperament. The prop was a long tobacco pipe, quite heavy in hand requiring careful balance, but this substantial weight added a sense of ceremonial presence.

There were so many photos from this shoot, making it hard to choose favorites. Sitting in the cool, shaded corridor wearing this outfit with traditional elements, gazing at the lush greenery outside as the breeze drifted by, shooting almost felt like pure enjoyment in that state. It happened to cater perfectly to my mood to slack off that day, letting go of real-world work pressures.

The difference between studio shoots and Outdoor photography lies here: outdoors, there is wind, authentic light, cicadas chirping, and the fleeting instant of clothes fluttering in the breeze. Walking around in the real world in this outfit and gear felt like crossing into another reality. I love shooting such cool and powerful character settings in this weather. Although wearing shorts, it was semi-covered by the coat, giving it better texture and layering; even simple white sneakers paired with red-and-black straps blended seamlessly.

Sometimes I wonder how much of one's own understanding and emotion can be infused into cosplay beyond faithful reproduction. This time just happened to capture this leisurely, relaxed state, which I wanted to share. I hope everyone can feel the comfortable atmosphere of that day. Joyful slacking moments are always fleeting, but they left behind beautiful photos. I hope for another chance next time to take such gorgeous photos in such a comfortable environment. Today's wish to slack off was completely fulfilled, delivering maximum emotional value—the rest of the work can wait until next time!
