Our Laterano group cosplay photoshoot chose an industrial area on a snowy day for the outdoor shoot. The initial plan was beautiful, but upon arriving at the scene, we realized the resistance brought by the freezing temperature was much greater than imagined. I was responsible for cosplaying the character with the pink hair styling. The entire outfit had very high requirements for materials and details, especially the black leather jacket with a white turtleneck underneath, and the pink crisscross straps on the chest of the bodysuit; the overall silhouette needed to remain crisp in the cold wind. To perfectly recreate the setting, I specifically matched it with black knee-high boots decorated with white shoelaces and small pink flowers. Walking on the snow in such boots is extremely slippery, and every step required extra caution. However, to capture the contrasting texture between the boots and the snowy ground, all this hard work was absolutely worth it.
The makeup and hair took a lot of my energy. To match the freezing vibe of the setting, I applied heavier eye makeup and did special smudging under the eyes. I chose a fuller red for the lip color, which was necessary to look dimensional under the strong diffuse reflection of natural light in the snow. The most headache-inducing part was the pink floating halo above my head. To make the support invisible in the photos, we used ultra-thin wire for hidden fixation. It would skew with the slightest breeze, requiring constant micro-adjustments of angle and position off-camera. My pink wig was also a key focus; the length and height of the bangs directly affected the visual proportions of my whole face. We had to use a small comb to tidy it up after every few shots outdoors to prevent it from getting tangled or frizzy in the wind.
The highlight of this shoot was the black heavy sniper rifle prop. It has a large volume, and with the scope and sling, holding it with one hand gave a very realistic sense of weight. When shooting the seated scenes, I rested one hand on the barrel while looking naturally and relaxedly into the distance. The reflection from the snow made my skin tone look very translucent. This state of not needing to strike stiff, deliberate poses actually captured the relaxed feel we wanted. The metal parts and wood grain texture of this prop gun were spot on; whether carrying it on my shoulder or holding it vertically, it amplified my overall aura, and paired with this tall and expansive industrial background, the frame composition was very rich and full.
Shooting the group photos actually consumed more physical energy than the solo shots because it required coordinating with several other members in the group; positioning, eye-level, and the direction of the props all needed to be synchronized perfectly. Picture 1 is an indoor Group behind-the-scenes teaser. We gathered in front of a simple white wall, all seven characters showcasing our own detailed features. The colorful wigs combined with specific accessories created an incredibly strong atmosphere of the Laterano faction. Speaking of the Medjehtiqedti Bound theme, everyone would discuss plot points from the lore during shooting breaks, which made the waiting time outdoors much more bearable. Braving sub-zero temperatures, we finished the solo close-ups, duo poses, and group photos in the snow. Even though our hands were so freezing that we barely had the strength to press the shutter, looking at the behind-the-scenes results on the camera screen made us feel that enduring the cold was entirely worth it.
The truly difficult part that day was actually maintaining a calm facial expression, because the cold wind blowing on your face easily makes you unconsciously stiffen up or squint, requiring the photographer to repeatedly remind us to adjust our state. The gray concrete silos and withered branches in the industrial area were perfect for creating a wasteland vibe in the Snowscape outdoor photography. With not much color interference, the cool tone of the whole picture stood out more, perfectly matching the overall tone of this group. By the time we finally wrapped up, the sky was already getting slightly dark, and the snow was covered with our messy, crisscrossing footprints. Although we were freezing to death, the feeling of a group of people working desperately under harsh conditions for a shared hobby to complete a cohesive piece of work is precisely the most memorable part of doing a Laterano group cosplay photoshoot.
