[Dusk cosplay] Arknights: Unaware of Being a Guest in a Dream, Entering the Scroll in Search of Solitude

Entering the scroll through a dream, guided by ink. In Arknights, the secluded nature and scroll-like realm represented by the Yan painter Dusk have always deeply touched me, so this time I chose cool-toned photography to capture that sense of detachment.

First, let's talk about the core of this outfit: a color-blocked mix of black and white leather. The inner layer is a white sleeveless top with a subtle wrinkled texture, breaking up the stiffness of flat fabric to add depth. The outer black leather off-shoulder jacket serves as the techwear backbone of the look, with white geometric patterns and digital prints acting as finishing touches that balance modern aesthetics with Eastern classical fantasy. The striking long red tie around the neck, along with the herringbone metal ornament stitched at its tip, provides an excellent visual anchor against the cool-toned set.

The headpiece required considerable thought. The pair of irregularly curved off-white hard horns and elf-like pointed ears required careful weight distribution during wear to prevent shifting with head movements. Featuring Elf beast horn makeup, the black wig was styled with subtle wisps and a slightly unkempt feel rather than sitting completely flat, retaining a messy breathing space. Combined with light blush and pale pink eyeshadow, it suppressed warm skin tones to achieve a ceramic-like Cool-toned fair skin aesthetic, attempting to evoke a visual presence untouched by worldly trivialities.

The highlight of the shooting environment was the semi-transparent white drapes featuring black ink calligraphy patterns. During the shoot, I gently held the edge of the drapes with one hand, letting the fabric fall naturally into overlapping layers. The wild-cursive calligraphic strokes on the drapes harmonized wonderfully with the overall cold white balance of the frame. Under diffuse light, the airy fabric radiated a soft glow, serving as a natural foreground element that generated a sense of depth, as if stepping directly into a three-dimensional scroll.

In controlling expression, I deliberately avoided looking straight into the lens, slanting my gaze slightly downward and to the side. This non-communicative glance better conveyed a quiet state detached from reality and immersed in inner reflection. Paired with subtle pale red pupils, it felt exceptionally restrained and cool under high-brightness lighting, echoing her original setting of aloofness and belonging outside current space-time.

In the process of cosplay, recreating appearance is only the first step; bringing out the character's unique demeanor requires team effort. From makeup and costume tweaks to set lighting, every element serves the overarching atmosphere. Particularly in a composition featuring a pure white backdrop and ink elements, black-and-white contrast can easily feel monotonous; thus, red accents echoing across the coat hem, shoulders, and tie served as a sensory breakthrough, allowing this Chinese-style art photography work to maintain a cool demeanor without lacking rich details.

Truth be told, shooting this look heavily tested physical coordination, as one hand held up the drape-draped "scroll" foreground while the other dropped naturally to maintain pose relaxation. After final editing, this tension between lightness and grip added a rich narrative quality to the character in the frame. That atmosphere of "unaware of being a guest in a dream" naturally flowed through these lights and shadows.
