[Sakiko Toyokawa cosplay] Dark Gothic Moments: Cool Tones Intertwined with a Black Tights Outfit

The cool color tones for this set were deliberately requested beforehand. The reflective background wall scattered sparkling fragments of light under the illumination, creating great visual cohesion when paired with the Arknights series styling aesthetic and Sakiko Toyokawa's Dark Gothic vibe. Due to the skirt's numerous layers and several built-in crinoline petticoats inside, the entire dress was extremely heavy. To keep the skirt in a clean umbrella silhouette regardless of movement, the photographer and I spent a long time fine-tuning our motion range. Fixing the horns on the head was also difficult; extra-long U-pins were necessary to secure them firmly, otherwise the horns would easily tilt when looking down or turning, all while ensuring the hair didn't get messy. That's why I arrived several hours early on the day of the shoot—just getting hair, makeup, and this elaborate gear ready took quite some time.

The boots on my feet also featured lace-up straps, making putting them on and taking them off tedious, though standing on the reflective floor cast a complete, clean reflection of long legs. When I first put on this gear and checked in the mirror, I worried about wardrobe malfunctions because the skirt was so heavy. After discussing it with the photographer, we decided to wear safety shorts underneath before slipping into the Black tights outfit, allowing for more relaxed poses. Furthermore, because the petticoat was so wide, my movements across the three shots couldn't be too dramatic, or the inner stiff tulle would easily become disarranged.

Among the three photos, my favorite is the seated one, which was chosen as the cover because of its centered composition—keeping the subject away from the edges—and a subtle low-angle perspective that perfectly highlighted the proportions of long legs in black tights. Sitting on the transparent chair, I deliberately gathered one side of the skirt slightly so it wouldn't obscure the leg lines. Under the cool light, the black tights revealed a delicate texture that, combined with the play of light and shadow on the clear chair, focused all visual attention on the legs. To achieve this, I repeatedly adjusted foot placement and toe angles to ensure the gaze carried both a lethal edge and a touch of languid nonchalance.

The sword-wielding shot was much more physically demanding. That sword had a fantastic metallic texture, but it was much heavier than anticipated; holding the hilt purely with wrist strength grew tiring after a while. To capture a sharper, more piercing gaze, I tilted my head slightly downward and constantly adjusted my gaze toward the lens in rhythm with the shutter clicks. For makeup, the focus was on a cool and glamorous finish, set with translucent powder matching my skin tone, paired with natural-looking false eyelashes to highlight the contrast against the silver-white hair.

Switching between seated and standing poses needed to be swift to snap photos before the outfit lost its shape. The photographer kept reminding me to straighten my spine and drop my shoulders. The collision of cool white and blue-purple lighting was truly the crowning touch, beautifully accentuating the texture of the Black tights outfit and the luster of the silver wig. In my view, presenting Sakiko Toyokawa's charm this time relied heavily on physical restraint. Wearing such heavy equipment naturally slows your movements, and this measured pace actually aligned perfectly with the character's mysterious, cool aloofness. Cosplay photography of such complex, exquisite characters is always a test of endurance, but seeing the final photos makes all the hard work entirely worth it.
