[Surtr Cosplay] Arknights Swimsuit: Crimson Mark Amidst Sparkling Waters

Under the intense summer heat, I suited up in Arknights Surtr's swimsuit ensemble and headed to this sparkling poolside. Though the sun beat down relentlessly, the refreshing cool light reflected off the water's surface perfectly balanced the heat, allowing me to fully immerse myself in the setting's aesthetic.

This outfit—pairing a semi-sheer white cover-up shirt over a black swimsuit core—focuses on crisp freshness and rich visual layering. When appearing as a Caster operator in Arknights, Surtr's look leans crisp, composed, and serious; transitioning into a swimsuit, however, offered a chance to boldly showcase softer, lighter textures. I particularly love the subtle contrast when the white ruffled mesh gets wet, revealing the black swimsuit underneath. Black neck cords and leg straps visually elongate my silhouette, while a golden anklet glimmers brightly under the sunlight.

Styling the red wig was a detail I paid extra attention to. To ensure the Red hair retained a vibrant, living texture under harsh outdoor sunlight, I carefully styled and shaped every strand. The black horns framing her head are the true soul of her design, guaranteeing instant character recognition from any camera angle. For makeup, I emphasized eyeshadow and winged eyeliner, pairing them with cool-toned blue contact lenses to mirror her eye color. The high-contrast pairing of Red hair and blue eyes pops with striking brilliance against the bright blue pool background.

The shooting process was slightly more demanding than anticipated. Though the poolside steps looked stable, they were slick with water. I had to maintain a relaxed seated posture and core balance to avoid slipping near the water's edge while staying fully focused on every frame. Dipping my feet into the water, the clear current washed over my calves, delivering a genuinely cool sensation. The photographer expertly utilized ripples of light reflected off the water, creating flowing motion within the frame. Those jumping white highlights across the water saved us significant post-processing lighting work, as natural sunlight yields a skin texture that digital editing simply cannot replicate.

Doing cosplay under intense outdoor sunlight requires careful thought regarding sun protection and makeup longevity. I used waterproof setting spray to ensure the makeup endured an afternoon of scorching heat and water mist. Costume-wise, lightweight breathable fabrics kept things comfortable, though the white mesh cover-up gained weight when wet. The wet texture and dry fluffiness presented two distinctly different states, so I gently shook out excess water between takes to maintain a graceful, draped drape.

Reflecting on the character herself, Surtr's in-game skill kit centers around burst damage and searing flames, matched by a cool, decisive demeanor. Wearing a swimsuit today, I still aimed to convey her signature confidence and calm composure. This sharp contrast forms the true charm of summer-exclusive skins—stepping off the battlefield into a moment of personal relaxation and ease. I intentionally adjusted my expression away from overly sweet smiles, opting instead for focused eyes paired with a subtle, confident smirk, allowing her to gaze into the camera with a blend of languid ease and quiet elegance.

The blue pool mirrored a massive shimmering sapphire, while my Red hair stood out like a vibrant mark of crimson sealing wax. This warm-and-cool contrast between red and blue created a remarkably harmonious balance in the photos. Sitting on the steps with a subtle forward lean made my body posture appear softer. I've always loved Waterside photoshoot concepts in summer, as moving water naturally infuses dynamic life into every shot without needing forced poses.

Fine-tuning this Surtr Swimsuit cosplay required multiple minor adjustments. For example, leg ring positioning had to strike the right tension—too tight left marks, while too loose slid down. Finding that sweet spot provided both comfort and sharp visual lines. The gold chain on my ankle was an added accessory, introducing a glistening highlight to the black-and-white base so the frame never felt monochrome.

For lighting, I asked the photographer to combine backlighting and side-backlighting. This allowed water reflections to form a soft golden rim light behind me, while a reflector bounced soft key light onto my face, preventing harsh shadows from overhead sunlight and yielding smooth lighting transitions in the final renders. Outdoor photoshoots heavily test a photographer's light mastery and a cosplayer's environmental adaptability—squinting under bright reflections is always a risk, but we captured the most natural, authentic moments seen in these photos.
