[Hoshiguma cosplay] Challenging Oni-Nee's Hardcore Look: Stepping Unexpectedly Out of My Comfort Zone

Trying out Hoshiguma's hardcore look from Arknights this time resulted in a surprisingly high level of fit. I used to stay within my fixed makeup and styling comfort zone, so challenging "Oni-Nee's" leather suit and single-horn design really made me re-examine the boundaries of my style.

First, about the wig: dark green long straight hair, with the bangs trimmed very thick and neat, leaving no stray hairs to block the view. I used plenty of hairspray to set the style this time, ensuring that even from a low-angle selfie, the bangs still form a natural curve covering just above the eyebrows. The white horn prop was custom-made based on the original design, with its base fitting flush against the hair, and its weight balance carefully considered when wearing to prevent it from slipping during long shoots. For colored contacts, I specially chose an amber yellowish-brown shade matching the character's eye color. For Character makeup, I boldly tried a smoky eye technique with reddish-brown tones, suppressing the brow bone's prominence while drawing sharp, elongated eyeliner to recreate that imposing yet not purely cold, capable aura as much as possible.

In terms of clothing choice, this glossy black leather sleeveless top added huge bonus points. The high-collar design paired with shoulder straps and metal buckles conveys a strong sense of a melee heavy defender operator. Because the collar is relatively high, controlling neck posture during photos was quite demanding; whether looking up or straight ahead, I had to intentionally tighten my jawline to project a crisp, sharp appearance. The fabric is structured and crisp; although arm movement was somewhat restricted, the reflective material under night lights provided a powerful sense of strength and presence. The waist-tapering design at the bottom transitions seamlessly into black trousers, giving the entire silhouette a very sharp finish.

The shooting environment was set on nighttime streets and inside a car. The warm yellow outdoor streetlights and the dark ambient atmosphere inside the vehicle formed a nice contrast with the single horn and pale face, while highlighting the glossy texture of the leather clothing. A wide-angle low-angle shot captured both the horn on my head and the full silhouette of the leather outfit. Although high-angle/perspective selfies are prone to perspective distortion, finding the right angle and distance ratio actually highlights the visual tension of the entire look even better. In particular, the side-leaning pose in the first photo maintained a relaxed ease while perfectly preserving the character's bold, heroic aura.

Regarding comfort zones, everyone goes through a preference stage in cosplay. I'm usually accustomed to glamorous and complex styling, rarely trying a sleek Techwear outfit style like this. But putting on this gear, I discovered that sometimes simpler lines and cooler color schemes generate a very strong visual impact. Moreover, the character "Oni-Nee" naturally possesses a hardcore, resilient temperament. This attempt gave me new insights into wig trimming and leather prop photography, while showing me the possibility of interpreting a completely different style. Stepping out of fixed thinking to portray a character with strong contrast is truly filled with fun.
