Coming to the seaside in Qingdao, I wrapped up this Arknights Myrtle cosplay photoshoot. We poured plenty of care into location scouting and prop prep, aiming primarily to capture the operator's relaxed, playful spirit while on holiday.
For the costume, this white ruffled camisole crop top and matching mini skirt feature abundant lace and sheer tulle textures, looking exceptionally breezy and refreshing against the summer beach backdrop. The standalone lace arm sleeves served as the defining touch, lending airy dimension and movement whenever I shifted. Wearing a delicate pearl anklet while stepping barefoot across the wet, soft sand felt far more effortless and organic than wearing shoes, perfectly blending into the seaside environment.
We prepared a wide array of props for this shoot, including a yellow inflatable swim ring, a long-handled white lace parasol, and a flock of yellow rubber duckies scattered across the shore. These items not only enriched the compositions but also made shooting immensely fun. Lining up several little rubber ducks along the tide line or holding them up for playful interactions yielded vivid, candid moments. The glare was a bit harsh initially, and the ocean wind kept whipping my hair into a mess, but the crew adapted quickly. The photographer was exceptional at utilizing natural light and shadows, especially reflecting compositions against the mirror-like wet sand.
The red twin pigtails required regular combing in the seaside heat to avoid frizz. Green contact lenses and the vivid red hibiscus flower tucked into the hair created a punchy color contrast. Midway through the shoot as the tide began rolling in, we waded into the shallows under the open lace umbrella, with iridescent translucent fabric tied to a long pole dancing in the breeze to impart a dreamlike fantasy touch. In that instant, it felt as though Myrtle had crossed into reality to frolic along the shore on a lazy summer afternoon.
My biggest takeaway from this session was navigating the many unpredictable variables of an outdoor shoot—shifting sun angles, gusty breezes, and the rhythm of the tides. Yet it was precisely these natural shifts that endowed the photos with a genuine authenticity and vitality that studio work simply cannot replicate. I hope this wave of refreshing seaside charm and spirit resonates with all of you.
