This red and black Witch cosplay outfit paired with a cool blue lighting setup was a concept I brainstormed for a long time, and I finally made the photoshoot happen over the holidays. Seeing many people looking for a girlfriend who does Arknights cosplay, I wonder if this set lives up to the standards in everyone's hearts. Regarding this Red dress look, the red patent leather fabric was the biggest shooting challenge—light hitting it easily causes large areas of harsh specular reflections, which can effortlessly wash out facial and body contours if not handled carefully. To adjust the reflection angles, the studio's key light position and front-side lighting ratio were fine-tuned over ten times before finally achieving a satisfying texture for the dress against this blue-and-black backdrop.
For hair and makeup, I chose a long, straight silver-white wig paired with red contact lenses to create a striking cool-toned contrast. The foundation was deliberately kept matte and fair so as not to be overshadowed by the red garment. The blue fish ornament on the hat, combined with the green glowing orb on the magic staff and surrounding blue drapes, gave the entire scene the ambiance of a dim underwater realm or magical sanctuary. Post-processing mainly focused on enhancing this warm-and-cool Blue light and shadow contrast along with the glowing texture of the staff, while preserving clean, translucent skin tones.
In terms of posing, to elongate leg lines, I sat on a white picture frame, coordinating with the black Leg garter accessory and the red skirt hem. This preserved the luxurious feel of the costume while making body lines look more slender. The white flowers and frame beside me balanced the visual weight of the cool blue drapes on the right, making the composition much more harmonious. Overall, pairing reflective materials with dark witch elements was far more challenging in actual shooting than anticipated, but fortunately the final photos look exceptionally sharp, cool, and valiant. Being able to bring this look to life and share it with everyone makes me truly happy.
