For this shoot, a gray-and-white toned staircase was chosen to complete this classic School uniform photoshoot record, with the overall lighting and composition striving to fit the atmospheric feel of the character in a campus environment.
In terms of makeup and styling, this orange wig required meticulous sectioning and setting to create the perfect twintails, paired with red ribbon hair accessories to anchor the overall presence. The eyes are the soul: I specifically selected blue-gray colored contacts paired with upward-flicked brown eyeliner; the focus and intensity of the pupils were especially crucial in this crouching shot. A matte base was chosen with light blush to highlight clean facial contouring, complemented by a soft pink lip with a subtle lip-gloss sheen.
For the costume, the bright blue pleated skirt was paired with a white shirt and red bow tie, with careful attention paid to the skirt hem's drape and the neatness of the socks. Because a crouching composition was chosen, the lines of the thighs and calves as well as the height of the white over-the-knee socks directly affected the visual leg length and neatness of the frame, so postures were repeatedly rehearsed in front of a mirror.
Regarding photography and post-processing, utilizing the staircase setting with a slightly downward angle captured both the gaze and body proportions perfectly. Side-backlighting was used against the gray steps; post-production not only refined skin texture but also intentionally preserved cool, dark tones, making the contrast between red, blue, and white even sharper while enhancing the character's aloof proudness.
During shooting, because the lens was quite close, capturing the gaze was vital. Subtle gestures—like gently resting a hand against the cheek or letting the other hand drape naturally beside the knee—were designed to add dynamic liveliness. Although prolonged crouching made my legs sore while keeping a focused gaze, aligning with the lighting and setting made it easy to enter the character's mindset and channel that tsundere, slightly aloof aura. Tidying the bangs between shots was also essential, as the heavy wig could easily obscure vision.
The entire photo set avoided extraneous additions, preserving an authentic campus vibe. It was slightly overcast on the day of the shoot, but the cool-toned natural light saved considerable lighting hassle, creating very smooth transitions. For live-action interpretations of 2D characters, I've always felt that demeanor and expression matter even more than merely recreating the costume. This set is a record of my state of mind at the time, as well as a personal exploration in character interpretation.
