When planning this shooting scheme, we envisioned several scene actions, intending to present Asuka's flamboyant and combat-ready feel. Actually, the environment of the shooting venue at that time was quite complex, with convention booths and bustling visitors all over the background. The photographer @苍蓝ya needed to quickly find clean shooting angles in the noisy environment, which was a true test of lens bokeh and composition skills for this piece of Cosplay photography.
The red-and-black outfit I wore had very meticulous stitching, and paired with the black choker and gloves, it perfectly fit the character's temperament. Especially the skirt—although it looked very well-styled, the material and the petticoat would actually pull against each other when bending down or swinging the sword. Every jumping and slashing movement required adjusting my breathing to maintain body balance, otherwise it would be very easy to trip and fall.
The violin and the long sword in the pictures are both vital elements to restore the character's setting, especially the special glossy lacquer finish on the violin's surface, which reflected a beautiful halo under the venue lights. To capture the exact moment when the twin-tails and the skirt hem naturally flew up, we repeatedly tried dozens of times, restarting the same set of movements several times, before finally selecting these moments that look relatively relaxed and effortless.
The costume for this shoot chose a highly lustrous red fabric, which presented a very strong three-dimensional effect after lighting. The combination of black stockings and red high heels is also an indispensable part of the character's look, beautifully elongating the leg proportions and enhancing the tension of the combat state. When posing, to prevent the long sword from looking like a toy, the strength and position of my grip needed special adjustments, cooperating with the tilt of my body to create a contrast of power.
The first-person sense of immersion, combined with the photographer's mastery over light and shadow, made the final results of this shoot reach or even exceed my expectations. Cooperating with the venue's built-in metal trusses and the huge reflective floor, the character's overbearing style was presented very accurately. This kind of character shaping with a strong personal style always allows one to find joy and a feeling of full devotion during the roleplay; every time I raise the weapon and instrument, it is another interpretation of the character.
