This time I tried a fanon concept styling of Kirisame Marisa from Touhou Project. The design of this outfit is quite different from the traditional red-and-black color scheme; it overall adopts a combination of white, black, and gold, incorporating many lace and star elements, giving a feeling of intertwined classical and gorgeousness when worn. The giant white lace bonnet on top of the head is the highlight of the whole styling, with lots of gathers on the brim and black patterned lace spliced at the edge. Although wearing it for a long time makes the cervical spine a bit sore, the final photo effect is truly stunning. Sapphire accessories are dotted on the neck and chest, and the black corset waist cincher with a brown leather belt at the waist nicely flatters the body proportions. The skirt hem on the lower body uses multi-layered white sheer gauze and fabric with a black starry sky pattern stacked together, creating a strong fluffy feel when walking. The magic broom held in the hand is also custom-made. The black broom handle is wrapped with grayish-blue thin thread, hanging with a golden lantern and star ornaments, and at the end of the broom tail, besides the original straw, a layer of grayish-blue sheer gauze cover with lace edges is draped over, full of details. To match this styling, I specially chose small brown leather shoes and white short socks.
This shoot selected two different scenes. The indoor part was completed in a Japanese wooden corridor. The afternoon sunlight obliquely shone into the corridor, pulling out long shadows, and light spots fell on the wooden floor and skirt hem, instantly bringing out that retro and warm ambiance. When walking in the corridor, one must constantly pay attention to lifting the skirt hem and broom, finding the best angle of light and shadow, which actually tests the ability of pace and limb control. Shooting under natural light is most charming for its uncopyable light and shadow, with every single shot possessing a unique texture. The outdoor part was changed to a densely vegetated forest path and wooden corridor steps. On the stone slab road mottled with tree shadows, I tried some slightly jumping poses with one leg lightly raised, which can make the skirt hem more dynamic and echo the character's lively personality. The giant hat and somewhat heavy broom actually impose certain limitations when striking poses, but it is precisely the presence of these props that makes the narrative sense of the entire photo stronger. When sitting on the wooden steps to rest, placing the octagonal small prop by hand and quietly gazing at the lens presented a completely different sense of tranquility. After shooting the whole set of photos, I feel that both the restoration of costume details and the capture of scene light and shadow have achieved the expected results. While retaining a few elements of Marisa, this fanon outfit blends lolita style; when displaying it in front of the lens, I would intentionally showcase a bit more agility, making this somewhat heavy dress look more vibrant. From the backlit stroll in the indoor corridor, to the brisk jump in the outdoor forest, to the quiet sitting on the steps, every action attempts to match the ambiance of this outfit. Through every shutter freeze-framing these pictures, it is not only a record of this exquisite costume, but also a preservation of the wonderful light and shadow of the shooting day. I hope this set of photos can convey this fantastical and retro ambiance.
