The overall result of these Marisa cosplay Anime convention photos shot at Firefly ACG Expo was genuinely so much fun. To faithfully recreate the classic magician image from Touhou Project, preparing this costume took considerable thought and effort. The black-and-gold dress features intricate layering, combining expansive lace and black mesh paneling with scattered star motifs that looked fantastic under the convention lighting.

The most distinctive piece was the wide-brimmed lace hat; though heavy to wear and prone to bumping against the broom when walking, framing it with a telephoto lens gave it an impressive, majestic presence. For the lower half, pumpkin bloomers were paired with white lace-trimmed socks (White stockings). Thanks to the voluminous flare of the wide skirt, varying camera heights allowed us to accentuate leg contours and overall adorableness nicely.

The lighting on-site was rather complex; to achieve clean and translucent Anime convention photos, we utilized natural light streaming in through large glass windows along the exterior of the venue. Taking advantage of tile floor reflections, the photographer shot from a low-angle upward perspective, which not only made the skirt look fluffier and more voluminous, but also visually elongated my leg proportions. In terms of posing, I coordinated with the broom to strike various poses—standing, glancing back over the shoulder, and sitting on the ground with legs apart—often having to gently hold down the wide brim with one hand to keep it from obscuring my face.

Although this outfit is gorgeous, moving around was definitely cumbersome, requiring constant adjustments to the layered mesh and leather straps. However, receiving recognition for this styling from fellow enthusiasts amidst the bustling convention hall made all the physical strain feel worthwhile. As a cosplayer, conveying the character's playful charm and magical essence through high fidelity and the photographer's visual language is immensely rewarding. I hope this summary of my experience offers useful reference for friends looking to shoot similarly complex costumes—such as always paying close attention to the draping of the skirt hem and the placement of props.
