I recently wrapped up this purple-themed photoshoot, which took about a month of prep from initial concept to final edits. I've always been drawn to dreamy aesthetics, and this time I took a hands-on role conceptualizing some of the styling and props.
The costume was without doubt the centerpiece of the shoot. The bodice features a color-blocked lilac and white halter cut linked by delicate pearl chains. An oversized purple bow graces the chest, embedded with a crescent-moon motif at its center. To prevent any wardrobe malfunctions during movement, we secured everything meticulously from within. The outfit is adorned with numerous fluffy white pompoms and scalloped lace edgings; the detachable sleeves in particular, while undeniably delicate, tended to slide down during wear and required regular adjustment. The bottom half consists of a mini skirt richly trimmed with white plumage, evoking a Feather fairy aesthetic. To complement the look, I paired it with over-the-knee White stockings. The ribbon ties encircling the stocking cuffs visually elongated the leg contours, but this also meant avoiding exaggerated motions to prevent snags—sitting and standing up each required utmost care.
The wig was styled in sleek silver-white straight locks with subtle gradient undertones. The feathered ears and bow pinned to the crown required a forest of bobby pins to lock securely. Harmonizing with the overall vibe, I kept the base makeup luminous and sheer, wearing ice-blue contact lenses to give my gaze a softer Anime girl charm. Before the shoot, I even visited a nail salon for a sheer lilac manicure with fine glitter; though occasionally hidden beneath the flared cuffs, it refined the overarching detail.
The set design was staged with exceptional care, featuring giant metallic cogs, vintage clock dials, and circular rose-window arches reminiscent of a church Fantasy scene. A white plush rug covered the floor, surrounded by an abundance of blue and purple florals, gilded frames, and white birdcages. Beyond these elements, assistants off-camera gently tossed white down feathers into the air. Capturing the ideal composition at the precise second the plumage drifted down severely tested both the photographer's shutter reflexes and my responsiveness. We went through over a dozen attempts before securing those natural, suspended-in-air moments.
Body posture control throughout the session was equally demanding. To flatter the lines of the legs and the White stockings, the posing relied heavily on kneeling and seated postures. Kneeling on a high-pile rug required continuous core engagement to keep the torso upright. Simultaneously, showcasing the intricate tailoring of the bodice called for drawn-back shoulders and a poised chin angle. After a cycle of poses, my lower back definitely felt the strain. However, because the costume palette and lighting fell into perfect harmony, the yield of keepers was exceptionally high.
This collaborative shoot taught me a great deal—from locking onto the lens swiftly amidst busy backdrops to using fluttering purple ribbons to enrich interactive dynamics. Elaborate as the styling was, the finished atmosphere was genuinely ethereal. Completing a shoot like this feels like weaving a fleeting dream into reality. I've always loved fantasy-infused wardrobes; though physically wearing, completely immersing myself in the shifting light and shadow is deeply rewarding. Moving forward, I might explore characters with stronger visual contrast, or continue plumbing the depths of this gentle aesthetic to see what new creative sparks might emerge.
