This set of styling for Keqing's Opulent Splendor theme actually took quite a lot of thought and preparation before shooting. The wig's double bun style really tested trimming skills, especially the trimming of the forehead bangs and sideburns. It had to ensure the length could frame the face without overshadowing the eyes. I adjusted it repeatedly with the stylist many times before achieving the expected fluffiness. Paired with the black bow hair accessory on top, it kept the overall head styling from looking too flat and created a top-to-bottom harmony with the black-and-blue color scheme of the costume.
For the makeup, I selected a gradient eyeshadow from light purple to gray instead of the conventional orange-pink palette, which better fits the overall tone of the purple hair. To get better expressions in front of the camera, I specifically chose reddish-pink colored contact lenses. This color combination makes the eyes look more focused under studio lights and echoes the character's cool yet slightly playful temperament. The face base makeup was kept relatively matte to prevent excessive reflection under intense lighting.
For the venue, we chose an indoor studio with rich oriental elements, an environment that beautifully matches the artistic conception of the outfit itself. The faux pink cherry blossom branches on the left and the hanging purple gauze build a serene visual framework, while the paper lanterns with wooden lattices serve as the main lighting props, perfectly injecting a touch of warmth into the overall cool atmosphere. Leaning next to the paper lantern during the shoot allowed its warm glow to hit my face from the side, making my facial shadows and contours look soft and natural.
Another prop that added a lot of points was the bamboo scroll in my hands, which was far more than just a decoration. Its solid weight allowed me to quickly find my body's center of gravity when posing. Whether I held it with a pinching gesture or pressed it against my palm, it didn't look hollow in the frame but carried a genuine sense of weight. The detail of the loose bamboo scroll rope precisely added to the ancient style atmosphere. The floor is smooth porcelain tile, which clearly reflected the light and shadow of the paper lanterns and the plush mat, expanding the overall visual space significantly.
Speaking of the costume design details, this black off-the-shoulder crop top paired with a black-and-blue gradient puffy skirt requires quite high standards for the shoulder and neck lines. During the shoot, I specially used tape for multi-layer anti-slip treatment to ensure my shoulders could be exposed stably without any clothing slippage, keeping the overall posture upright and sharp. The blue skirt hem is embellished with geometric gold and white patterns, ensuring that the large area of the skirt wouldn't look monotonous in front of the lens. The light-colored stockings below, paired with black pointed-toe shoes, visually elongated the proportions of the legs.
In terms of the shooting rhythm, the entire studio photography process was very smooth. The photographer provided a lot of different guidance, such as changing the center of gravity while leaning and adjusting the holding angle of the bamboo scroll, resulting in final photos that include both relatively static close-up shots and full-body shots that showcase the overall lines of the outfit. Thanks to thinking ahead about anti-exposure and safety issues during preparation, I was able to relax and focus on conveying emotions and expressions during the shoot.
I have always felt that the significance of cosplay is not just limited to replicating the appearance, but more importantly, to express the character's temperament through the integration of the set, lighting, and the character. When you immerse yourself in this specific scene and costume, feeling the weight of the props and the warmth of the lights, the experience of the entire process becomes incredibly real. This Keqing look was thus recorded in the form of imagery. Although some minor troubles were encountered along the way, seeing how well it blended with the set in the final photos brought a satisfying conclusion to this earnest preparation.
