This Summer uniform shoot for Kinomoto Sakura truly pushed the experience of summer to its fullest. To recreate that breezy, vibrant atmosphere from Cardcaptor Sakura, we dedicated considerable thought to location scouting. The ocean of sunflowers was the first location settled upon—bright yellow petals echoing against the blue sky boasted immense color saturation, perfectly accentuating the crisp, clean silhouette of the white sailor-collared dress.

Regarding the outfit, this Summer uniform cut is relatively relaxed, allowing the skirt hem to ripple naturally in the breeze. Therefore, I intentionally incorporated hand gestures during shooting—such as steadying the hat and gently lifting the hem—to bring dynamic rhythm to static photos. The oversized green bow on the chest acts as the visual centerpiece; to prevent it from losing shape during the shoot, I carefully ironed it before heading out to maintain a crisp, structured form. The short orange-brown wig also needed prior trimming and styling, balancing the layering of the bangs and the curvature of the tips to prevent them from looking messy under strong outdoor winds.

Sunlight on the day of the shoot was intense and nearly directly overhead, posing quite a challenge in portrait photography. We brought a compact reflector to subtly lift shadows on the face, making skin texture appear far more translucent. Standing among the sunflowers meant dealing not only with the heat but also with swarms of small flying insects, yet this outfit carried such vivid vitality in the floral sea. The hand-carried wicker basket served as a delightful finishing touch, adding a hint of travel narrative to the entire composition. Later, we relocated to an asphalt road baking hot under the sun; wearing white calf-high socks and beige flats, I strove to keep my stride light and brisk. To capture that rim light haloing hair strands in the sun, we walked back and forth along the road many times, adjusting across varied angles and poses.

The character of Kinomoto Sakura has always conveyed a positive, hopeful energy. Compared to battle costumes, this Summer uniform styling leans much closer to everyday life, yet places higher demands on subtle details. From accessory coordination to the translucency of the makeup, every element required refined treatment. For the eye makeup, I chose earthy tones without overly dramatic lashes, opting instead for a whisper of orange-toned blush to echo the sunflower palette and preserve a natural, energetic vibe. While standing among the blossoms, foliage brushed against my calves and felt quite scratchy, yet to maintain compositional balance, I persevered through the entire sequence of poses. This set not only showcases this look to everyone, but also serves as my own tangible record of summer memories. Looking back at these photos down the road, I will still feel the radiant sun and honest sweat of that day.
