Shooting Miyue's Bai Jingjing skin from Honor of Kings at the beach in Shenzhen this time remains a truly unforgettable experience when looking back. In fact, plenty of preparations were made beforehand—especially tailored for the seaside environment—from costume fastening to makeup longevity.

Starting with the outfit, the color scheme is exceptionally refreshing—a striking contrast of white, cyan-green, bright yellow, and light purple that appears translucent under natural light with rich color dimensions. Light, breathable fabrics make up most of the costume, particularly the flowing ribbons and shawl sections; having no rigid internal support, they were designed specifically to dance naturally in the sea breeze. The crown hairpiece is quite substantial and serves as the centerpiece of the styling, featuring a complex structure with grey-white and silver armor-like textures. To ensure it wouldn't shift or tilt during shooting, dozens of bobby pins were crisscrossed underneath for stabilization. Yet facing direct gusts on the beach, continuous manual adjustments were still required—nearly every few shots, my assistant had to help rearrange my hair and crown alignment to maintain flawless elegance on camera.

The shooting location was set in a rocky reef area along the Shenzhen coast. For a shoot featuring long floating ribbons and delicate gauze garments, this terrain is a natural blessing—offering a rugged contrast to soft elegance—while presenting a genuine physical challenge. Sea winds were powerful; without paying attention to wind direction, the hemline would slap against legs or face, or even block the lens. Many seemingly casual hand lifts or subtle torso tilts were actually calculated moves to control the gauze's flow into optimal sweeping arcs. Several shots were taken backlit, with sunlight streaming from behind to gild the contours of the headpiece and shoulders with a soft rim light. This captivating aura was entirely bestowed by the environment, with sparkling sea reflections forming an exquisite backdrop that would be difficult to synthesize naturally in post-processing—which is precisely why we kept shifting angles on-site searching for light positions.

Regarding makeup, to match the character's commanding aura, deep eye accents and bold lip colors were highlighted over a light, breathable base layer. Despite high coastal humidity and sweat, the photographer's capture rhythm was perfectly controlled, snapping precise moments at peak state to preserve makeup refinement. In terms of posing, we experimented with a blend of sitting and standing postures. The cross-legged sitting posture on the rocks helped lock in my center of gravity while taking advantage of the tailored cut to elongate the silhouette, showcasing both the costume's pattern precision and leg proportions.

Accessory details were rich: the footwear chosen was high-heeled lace-up sandals matching the overall palette. Navigating uneven, rough rock surfaces required stepping with extreme care to avoid sprains or catching heels in rock crevices, but the final outcome proved every careful step worthwhile. Across these sets, we intentionally fused character refinement with the raw roughness of rocks and ocean, creating a powerful visual contrast that defined the success of this shoot.

Although overall shooting time was constrained by daylight, efficiency was high. Unlike controllable studio environments, outdoor parameters like wind, light direction, and tide height shift constantly, relying heavily on quick synchronization and tacit understanding between photographer and model. If you wish to try a similar Chinese-style anime location shoot, I highly recommend leveraging natural wind features—avoid keeping clothes clinging tightly, and instead go with the breeze to create flowing lightness, which highlights the dynamic charm of the design. Though laden with accessories and limited mobility, the costume fabrics and colors revealed their most authentic textures under natural light and shadow.
