This time, we ventured out to the outskirts of Xiamen to shoot a Fate/Grand Order Nero photoset, choosing a wild meadow dense with tall reeds as our location. The weather that day was absolutely fantastic. We deliberately timed the shoot for the golden hour just before sunset, with the sun resting perfectly behind and to the right of my head to create an exquisite backlit setting. The lens flare and warm overall color palette in the unedited raw frames carried a profound cinematic feel.
Regarding the costume for Nero, I wore an off-the-shoulder white dress accented with intricate gold embroidery along the neckline. To heighten the visual impact, I paired it with lustrous red satin. The red fabric was casually draped and cascaded over a vintage white wrought-iron bench, forming a striking color contrast against the white dress. My arms were adorned with white translucent sleeves featuring voluminous puffy cuffs, coordinated with sheer stockings and silver strappy high-heeled sandals. The pearl anklets around my ankles were a subtle personal touch I added, aiming to make the overall ensemble look even more opulent and refined. Holding a red rose with green leaves as a prop, complemented by a seated crossed-leg posture, lent the overall silhouette far more dramatic tension.
During the actual shoot, while backlighting lent an ethereal ambiance, it also posed significant challenges for lighting control. To keep facial features clear and translucent, photographer @小R同事 used a reflector on the front with pinpoint precision. Because the light in the grassy field shifted so rapidly, we had to adjust camera angles and capture poses within a very tight window, thoroughly testing our chemistry and coordination. Sitting among the tall grass was far from effortless—there were mosquitoes around and the weeds were somewhat prickly. To accentuate the most elongated lines of my legs, I had to maintain the crossed-leg pose continuously while keeping my back perfectly straight to ensure a poised, regal posture.
To match Nero's opulent, arrogant, yet intensely vibrant presence, I kept my expression confident and composed. The moment I held up the rose and looked toward the lens, the evening glow bathed the strands of my hair and the folds of my dress. The surrounding reeds and withered grass infused the scenery with a touch of desolate, epic grandeur. From the early stages of sourcing costumes and props to hair and makeup styling, on-set lighting coordination, and final color grading, every single detail went through iterative discussions and refinements. Seeing the finished photos made all the exhaustion vanish instantly. This outdoor shooting experience was truly unforgettable, and I hope everyone can feel the distinctive beauty brought by the sunset glow in these photos. Huge thanks to the photographer for all the hard work and exquisite dedication.
