Shooting Jade today inside the venue at Nanning Autumn Festival. Diving straight into the styling details: the outer glossy black leather jacket is a piece I adore, featuring high-saturation bright blue panels along the cuffs and lapel linings that form an intense contrast against the deep black. Layered underneath is a black cropped tube top, baring the full waistline, coordinated with a black pleated skirt trimmed with white ruffles along the hem. A leather belt featuring a metallic skull buckle cinches the waist, injecting an edgy touch of punk and gothic dark aesthetics.
Nuanced details on the legs feature fishnet stockings paired with a lace garter band on the thigh, anchored by glossy black leather shoes. The vivid blue wide-brimmed hat perched on top serves as the crowning touch of the entire ensemble; its black inner brim creates a harmonious dialogue with the outfit's color blocking. To complement this cool and bold styling, my makeup focused on vivid electric-blue contact lenses and deepened eyeshadow, paired with a lustrous, dewy lip tint.
The venue ceiling at Nanning Autumn Festival was lined with numerous overhead lights, making the ambient illumination rather chaotic. Our gear for the day was a Sony A7M4 paired with a Tamron 35-150mm lens—incredibly practical for comic-con settings thanks to its rapid autofocus and versatile focal range, enabling swift candid captures even amidst dense foot traffic. However, convention photography doesn't afford the luxury of slow studio fine-tuning; you have to lock into character instantly. The pose in Photo 1, kneeling on one knee with both arms raised overhead, truly tested my core strength, requiring steady bodily control without swaying while maintaining expressive facial tension. Later, I posed standing while holding the hat in hand, cleanly capturing the sleek texture of the leather jacket.
Cosplaying Jade, I felt the most crucial nuance lay in commanding her distinct presence. Black leather paired with a blue hat can easily look overly rigid and austere, so in my posing choreography, I incorporated playful elements—such as a cheeky tongue-out expression paired with a subtly aggressive gaze—preventing the mood from feeling stiff. Convention photography is an endurance test: wearing heavy leather under baking lights makes sweating inevitable, requiring frequent makeup touch-ups and constantly teasing the wig to keep it voluminous and free from sticking to my face.
Because the venue backdrop was relatively cluttered, I specifically asked the photographer to use a wide aperture to melt the passing crowds and exhibition booths into soft blur, ensuring the character's silhouette and vibrant wardrobe colors popped with maximum clarity. The fabric gleamed with a subtle specular sheen under the lights, yielding final shots that exceeded my expectations.
