[Mudrock cosplay] The Maiden Beneath the Armor of Arknights

The theme of this shoot is Mudrock from Arknights. Pre-shoot preparations took about two weeks, with most of the effort going into styling the wig and horns. The long, straight silver-white hair with subtle messy layering, combined with the pair of curved black horns on top, proved more challenging to style than expected. The geometric headpiece had to be fixed above the bangs without blocking vision or looking too abrupt, which took a long time to adjust in the makeup room.
For eye makeup, vibrant red contacts were paired with dark eyeshadow to create an aura that feels slightly cool and distant yet absent-minded. In line with the character setting, pointed ear props were added, which took some effort to wear. The outfit is a black sleeveless dress, accented with a black choker and triangular armbands, giving it a distinctive look. Walking around the venue in this outfit, I could truly feel the weight of the accessories.
The lighting on the shooting day was slightly dim, so the photographer adjusted the lighting setup to add rim-light highlights along my face and silver hair, making my complexion look quite bright. Many passersby stopped to watch, which actually added to the fun of interacting. Since the fabric of the outfit wrinkled easily, we had to smooth it out constantly throughout the shoot. Poses were designed mainly for half-body close-ups—tucking the chin slightly and using subtle, mystical hand gestures to harmonize the heavy feel of the gear with a delicate maidenly vibe.
Guided by the photographer, we captured several sets of shots from different angles. Although the whole process was demanding—constantly adjusting poses while keeping facial expressions and eye focus sharp—seeing the raw photos felt completely aligned with the character's battlefield presence. For me, managing expressions for a character with such heavy gear is quite a challenge, as the costume itself carries strong emotional expression. The final visual results—both the texture of the costume and the oppressive atmosphere of the cool-toned color grading—closely matched how I imagined the character. In particular, the black threads woven through the hair strands added a nice touch of detailed design to the overall look.
Post-processing mainly involved touching up skin blemishes while preserving the sharpness of the red eyes. Now that this finished set is finally out, it serves as a rewarding conclusion to this preparation period. The overall shooting vibe was fantastic, communication with the crew and photographer went seamlessly, and I look forward to taking on more characters like this next time.
