July in Hangzhou is muggy and sticky, so it's better to hide inside a studio to quietly shoot a couple of sets. I met up with Homo-sensei last weekend, and I'll throw out a few previous sample photos as a reference, which also serves as a preview of my saved images for the upcoming July weekends.
That red-and-white rabbit-ear look really tests the lighting. The warm yellow light of the bar pressing down on the black leather sofa, combined with the sharp contrast between white stockings and black high heels, really boosts the mood. Leaning against a high stool while drinking red wine maxes out the vintage vibe completely. Adjusting my sitting position slightly in that scene beautifully brought out the elongation of the instep. Placing a dartboard and some subtle light and shadow variations in the background during the shoot adds a lot of narrative depth to the frame.
As for the outdoor industrial area set, the rusty iron pipes and the distant cooling towers naturally bring a gritty wasteland vibe. Stepping onto the concrete ground in this clean and crisp white sailor suit cosplay creates a fantastic sense of contrast. Lowering my head to fiddle with my hair or tilting my chin slightly to capture a natural, relaxed state looks much more enduring than forcing deliberate poses.
Then there is a set of black-and-white emotional photos, combining the rooftop with a glass curtain wall. As the hazy grey air presses down, the sense of detachment in the wide shots and the intimacy of the hand close-ups create a strong change in rhythm. Holding those fine metal chain props made my heart settle down instantly.
Additionally, for the indoor sword sheath set against a pure white or pure black background, paired with artificial smoke, pinning my golden hair into a bun with a few loose strands on the side and a touch of blue ribbon for color on the edges keeps the entire visual clean and sharp. Lifting the sword sheath to my chest or coordinating it with a knee posture displays a cold, focused sense of power.
The plan for July is to schedule shoots on weekends. Since Homo-sensei desperately wants to shoot some related ACG character IPs, I am actually quite open to various 2D styles; as long as the makeup, hair, and scene can match up, I am fully cooperative. Regarding the studio fee, I might need the booking photographer to cover it a bit. A white studio at 60 RMB per hour is more than enough for our white studio photoshoot plan—it offers massive space for post-processing color grading and a high tolerance rate for great photos.
The summer light in Hangzhou easily causes overexposure, so indoor studio shooting is truly a stress-relieving choice. I've organized these sample images of different styles, including a combat-style sailor suit cosplay, a vintage party style, and a cool, melancholic black-and-white set, hoping to attract photographers with matching aesthetics and good communication skills to play with something different in Hangzhou this July. Before the shoot, what's most needed is a shared imagination of the character visuals between both parties, ensuring a satisfying \"instant click\" when the photos come out. I believe that as long as the atmosphere and emotion are brought in front of the lens, the final photos won't be bad.
