Bringing Zenless Zone Zero's Sunna to life at Firefly ACG Expo was an incredible experience. Sunna combines the petite, adorable exterior of a youthful character with the poised, mature confidence of an adult—this stark contrast was the core reason I chose to cosplay her. Seeing everyone online joke about her being an adult who shouldn't be zapping people, I consciously leaned into an aura of cheeky playfulness mixed with unapologetic confidence when designing her poses and demeanor.
For hair and makeup, to spotlight these traits, I chose curly mint-green locks accented by black and cyan cat-ear clips. Eye makeup centered on deepening crimson shading around the outer corners, paired with vibrant blush to balance youthful sweetness with a sharper, grown-up edge. The garments hold immense complexity: a short-sleeved white collared shirt pinned with two black heart brooches on the left lapel, tied together with a red necktie printed with starlight and angelic motifs. A black leather choker was layered around the neck for extra dimensional depth.
The pink-and-white striped knit warmers worn on my arms and calves served as a major focal point. To ensure they stayed crisp without slipping down during movement, I anchored them firmly on the inside. The pink leather garter on my thigh came equipped with a smiling pouch, which, paired with the multi-tiered ruffled black puff skirt, raised the visual waistline and elongated leg proportions in camera. To harmonize the silhouette, I wore pink-and-white platform sneakers, while the striped stockings and black buckled straps added rich layering across the lower body.
The pink megaphone prop in my hands served as the literal soul of the entire build. I custom spray-painted and assembled it strictly to match reference artwork, combining white, pink, and green body panels with a matte black grip and tactile dial switches for convincing texture. On the convention floor, I held the megaphone aloft in one hand for varied dynamic poses; because the skirt hemline is fairly short, I kept tight control over angles during leg lifts and sweeping moves to keep every frame spirited yet composed.
We staged the shoot along the convention center's expansive floor-to-ceiling glass facade, with bustling attendee queues and urban curtain walls creating an airy wash of natural light outside. Numerous photographers gathered around, creating an electric show-floor energy. I experimented with pointing toward the lens, poking my cheek, and mimicking playful kitten paw gestures to channel Sunna's spunky, spirited side. A full day of walking the con floor was exhausting, but seeing the faithful textures and nuances in the final photos made every bit of prep work worthwhile. This Sunna cosplay hit every mark in wardrobe finish and character presence.
