This finished Shenhe photoshoot was shot outdoors on a bright, scorching sunny day, and the intensely harsh lighting conditions actually added considerable difficulty to the shoot. Especially during low-angle shots, direct sunlight beamed right into the lens; fortunately, that translucent paper umbrella blocked part of the harsh glare, preventing facial blowouts while preserving layered depth in the shadows.
Regarding costume details, this outfit's design is exceptionally refined. The upper body features a black mandarin collar adorned with gold embroidery and red cord accents across the chest, looking exquisitely intricate. The white fur shawl layered over it is the most eye-catching element—and during the shoot, the hottest part to wear. Despite the sweltering heat, it was indispensable for perfectly accentuating the character's cool, detached elegance, while effectively neutralizing any monotony from the dark attire.
We deliberately chose a low-angle upward perspective, which not only naturally showcased the thigh lines beneath the high slit, but also worked with the voluminous fur to make the character project a more commanding presence, fitting her cool, aloof persona. Simultaneously, this angle fully displayed details like the leg wraps, Black thigh-high stockings, and blue floral motifs. Because a high slit can easily risk accidental exposure, shooting required not only watching angles but also monitoring the garment's placement at all times to maintain graceful poise.
The shooting process was actually a severe test of physical stamina. Because of the wind, holding the umbrella in a fixed pose was utterly exhausting, and the fur shawl was easily blown out of shape by gusts. To keep the shawl from fluttering wildly, I practically squeezed it with the strength of my shoulders and arms the entire time while maintaining an upturned chin and an aloof expression; holding this all afternoon left my shoulders intensely sore. Every few minutes, we had to pause to adjust the wig and accessories, especially the ear tassels and the golden cords dangling over the chest, preventing them from knotting in the wind or obstructing vision.
Regarding makeup and the wig, the silver-white hair color reflects light very easily under intense sun, so the hair strands had to be styled cleanly to avoid appearing like a flat, overexposed white blob. The makeup was designed purely to serve the character: elongating the eye shape through liner and pairing it with subtle reddish-brown eyeshadow added a touch of sharpness, giving my gaze a deeper and colder allure.
Whenever I cosplay this character, I carefully contemplate that feeling from the lore—carrying the fate of the adepti, umbrella falling upon the mortal realm. Her emotions are exceptionally restrained, requiring gaze and posture to convey the narrative weight. Thus during shooting, I refrained from smiling, kept seated poses poised and upright, and moved with steady grace to summon that otherworldly aura detached from mundane dust. The post-processing philosophy aimed to stay true to the raw shots while subtly refining the colors of the blue sky and paper umbrella, allowing the blue and white elements to echo each other and steering the overall palette toward a crisper chill.
In addition, the costume features delicate clasps and tassel details around the waist; though some elements were obscured by camera angles, the crafted texture was genuinely solid. This outdoor shoot took about two to three hours to wrap up. Although hot and tiring, seeing the raw captures faithfully embody the character's aloof, slightly distanced demeanor made it feel thoroughly worthwhile.
