When shooting this Hitachi Mako cosplay (Hitachi Mako cosplay from Senren*Banka), the weather was quite hot, but the outdoor natural lighting was just right—dappled light filtering through trees cast over the face and legs provided rich texture. For hair and makeup, high-saturation blue, white, and red color coordination was used, paired with dark stockings with Stocking straps and blue-and-white sandals, looking exceptionally photogenic. Because the character has a ninja background, we chose park stone steps and tree branches as shooting spots.
During shooting, the white straps around my calves were retied multiple times to ensure a clean, aesthetically pleasing shape, and the kunai props received special detailing. On set, I spent a lot of time discussing with the photographer how to crouch naturally on tree branches without making legs look shortened. My personal favorite is actually Photo 1 (the cover shot)—the centered composition provides visual balance, with a direct, engaging gaze into the camera, while the Stocking straps, elongated leg lines, and costume details are showcased most completely in this single shot, making it the perfect cover. Photo 5 had great dynamic motion under backlighting, but felt slightly too busy for a cover.
For portraying Hitachi Mako, balancing a cool, aloof demeanor with a touch of playfulness is key. Thus, I experimented with seated and standing poses from various angles to accentuate figure strengths while preserving the character's intrinsic mystery. For Outdoor photography, I recommend shooting between 3:00 and 4:00 PM when the sunlight softens; natural dappled light makes skin tones appear remarkably translucent. The entire shoot was captured in RAW format to facilitate fine-tuning color temperatures in post. Post-processing avoided excessive reshaping, preserving natural leg contours, which is quite rare for outdoor location shoots.
Sweating heavily throughout the shoot required constant makeup touch-ups, but thankfully the final hit rate was very high, particularly with the texture of the stockings and legs shining under natural light. When selecting photos, I prioritized spatial depth in composition and candid facial expressions to deliver an unforgettable ambiance. The costume quality was also superb; capturing the red cape on the backpack fluttering in the wind added great flair, evoking the lightweight sensation of shuttling through a forest. Overall, despite the exhausting shoot, it yielded very satisfying photos. Sharing my photo selection thoughts and shooting perspectives, I hope this provides some inspiration for fans of this outdoor theme.
