These convention photos capture this Rikka bunny girl look. The outfit matching focuses on purple, featuring a cropped top design accented with white piping at the collar and paired with a vibrant red bow tie, creating a striking visual contrast. The black skirt on the bottom has a slight puffiness with ruffle details along the edge. The over-the-knee blue-violet stockings are the highlight of this ensemble, with white stripes at the cuff and black pom-pom decorations at the top making them highly recognizable. For shoes, I chose black patent leather high heels with red soles, which created nice highlight reflections on the venue floor.
A lot of thought went into the bunny ears headband on my head as well—black on the outside, light pinkish-purple on the inside, with a small black bow hanging on one side. The wig chosen was a deep purple-black short cut with piecey bangs, neatly trimmed to easily reveal facial features and eye expressions during shooting. Wearing several silver and rhinestone-embedded rings on my hands added a refined texture when holding poses.
The venue on shooting day was quite large, and the overhead spotlights cast very harsh light and shadows. This environment poses a real test for a cosplayer's expression control, as a slight oversight creates heavy dark shadows, requiring the photographer's fill-light coordination on site. In Picture 2's kneeling pose, leaning forward while supporting myself on a black reflector dish requires tightening the core to display leg lines, while maintaining a direct gaze into the camera lens. The layers of that black short skirt unfolded naturally under this kneeling position.
Picture 3 shows a seated angle holding the striped cane, which features alternating purple and white stripes echoing the color palette of the outfit. Seated posing required extending the legs toward the front-side, allowing the seamless continuity between the over-the-knee socks and high heels to show in frame. The convention venue's spacious concrete floor with its grey-black scuffs and scratches surprisingly added a raw texture and authentic real-life atmosphere to the photos.
As for Picture 1, it serves as a full frontal reference. Before cosplaying this Rikka, I specifically referenced the official illustration's costume proportions. The angle of the wig and the positioning of the collar were fine-tuned during fitting, especially the angle of the bunny ears accessory, which was adjusted several times so it wouldn't look unnatural.
Communication with the photographer during this shoot was smooth. Because the venue was crowded with other attendees and passing photographers, the background was quite noisy. We had to seize moments in relatively open spots, utilizing available lighting and a wide aperture to blur the background slightly, keeping full focus on the subject.
In post-processing, to match the cool-toned style of this costume, the color temperature and tint were slightly shifted toward purple and blue hues, boosting overall luminosity and the sheen of the patent leather. For hair styling, the wig was secured tightly to allow for bigger poses, which is a basic necessity for long hours shooting at anime convention events. Cosplaying this 2D character required not only accurate costume and props, but also staying relaxed in a busy convention setting—ensuring the most natural moment is captured when the shutter clicks. Mastering these subtle details is often what differentiates convention photos from studio shoots.
