[Ruan Mei Cosplay] Honkai: Star Rail: Classical Grace Interwoven in Blue and Teal

This set of Honkai: Star Rail Ruan Mei cosplay photos has finally been organized. Compared with daily shoots, a lot of effort was spent polishing every detail from makeup and styling to actual shooting this time. When first choosing the character, I actually hesitated for a long time because her demeanor leans quiet and introverted, which contrasts quite a bit with my usually lively and cheerful personality. However, to restore the essence of the character in Honkai: Star Rail, I tried my best to align with the original setting in terms of details.

Let's talk about the costume and accessories first. What attracts me most about this outfit is the color-blocked design of cyan-blue and white. The overall material is very light and thin, but essential tailored cuts and embroidered textures are preserved. My favorite part is the pearl necklace around the neck, combined with dark blue long gloves and the ring ornament on the leg, which instantly brings out visual layering. To ensure texture, I specifically picked satin gloves, whose luster under the lights indeed added major points. The wig has a black base with dark green highlights; styling the hair into a bun really tests technique because one must mind hair fluffiness and securing hair ornaments so it doesn't look messy, or else it loses that cool, clean sharpness of the character.

The set layout on the day of shooting was actually a very classical studio—bamboo recliners and long couches, transparent white gauze curtains behind, staggered wooden shelves on the left, and a few red maple leaves dotting the right. Although the scene was not complex, under the interplay of light and shadow, it felt very much like a Xianxia or ancient Chinese painting scroll. For shooting props, we prepared a calligraphy scroll, an oil-paper umbrella with plum blossom patterns, and a folded fan. Since these props naturally carry strong Chinese-style elements, holding them enriched postures without disrupting the character's overall artistic mood.

Adjusting poses was also tried repeatedly for a long time. For example, when holding the fan in a standing pose, I consciously relaxed my shoulders to let my arms extend with linear beauty, paired with a slightly drooping gaze to convey her bystander-like sense of detachment. When sitting, I tried to show limb extension as much as possible, elongating visual proportions through leg lines, white stocking texture, and a high-slitted skirt hem as part of this Stocking outfit arrangement. Especially for the pose sitting on the bamboo couch with one leg stretching forward, I adjusted the angle four or five times—both to avoid overexposure from stocking reflections and to ensure the shoes' pointed toe complemented the foot arch smoothly. During the shoot, camera focal lengths switched between close-ups and wide shots, paired with bright yet soft cool-toned lighting, presenting skin texture and clothing light-and-shadow contrast clearly.

In fact, after finishing this shoot, my deepest feeling was gaining a new understanding of this character's story in Honkai: Star Rail. Because there was a scene leaning on the couch reading a scroll, I specially held up the calligraphy scroll to cover half my face, simulating a tranquil atmosphere. Although my personal interpretation certainly has many imperfections, at that moment I truly experienced the character's erudite state infused with a sense of story.

This photo set encompasses various postures like standing, sitting, and leaning. The photographer's guidance was very efficient, capturing many vivid moments in a fast-paced shoot. During post-production editing, we tried our best to retain skin texture and fabric folds without over-smoothing, as Ruan Mei's sense of realism is also very important. This weekend, I might go on an outdoor location shoot in this outfit and styling to take photos in more natural light for a different atmosphere. For me, every cosplay is not just roleplay, but an emotional journey stepping deep into another 2D world. Although the temperature on the shooting day wasn't high, and I was shivering in the cold outside with bare legs under this outfit, seeing everyone's recognition makes me feel it was all worth it. Characters in the Honkai: Star Rail universe all have great depth, and bringing Ruan Mei to life crossed off an item on my wishlist.
